Favorite Pets

As I was reading about Pam's pets, I felt we should all post about our favorite animals. Most of us have them at home rather than kids....or like me, they are my kids. I have 2 cats Lady and JR. (Pronounced JAY R). JR is Mr. Personality. As I type this he is on the cedar chest in front of the window. He was sleeping earlier on his back with his legs spread out....just like a man. He talks more than Lady and he chases shadows. He is so funnny to watch as he goes after the shadows. (This usually happens as I sit on the throne. ) Lady is Ms Priss. She gets cold and snuggles inside the bed clothes between the sheets and the bedspread. She has a very faint MEOW that she does not use unless she thinks we need to feed her. Every time I sit down in the recliner she is on my chest and giving me kisses. JR is a orange striped Persian with a fluffy tail Lady is completely white with green eyes.

Martha, Great subject. I'm not sure my animals are any match for Pam's, but they are certainly characters. Rufus is a Flat Coat Retriever who is about as nuerotic as they come. He can't stand for anyone else to get attention, follows me everywhere and sits on the cats. He also sits on lizards and birds. He head butts other dogs and body slams Peabody against the wall. Peabody is a Border Collie who is a prime candidate for doggie gastric bypass surgery. I usually have him shaved in the summer and he ends up looking like some kid's prize winning 4-H pig. Peabody does a strange straight armed salute that makes him look like he's one of the Hitler Youth. Stinky is a grey tabby who loves to hug and be hugged. It sounds cute, but it's not so cute when she literally climbs up your body with her claws to be hugged. Runtley is a yellow tabby with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. He usually has no whiskers from rubbing them off and once rubbed off his top lip. Maisey is the long-haired Calico Princess. OK, actually, she's quite the brat. She picks on the other cats, bullies the dogs and is bald at the moment. I take her in every Spring to be shaved so she'll be comfortable through the hot summer. She looks like she's a Chernobyl survivor. She got shaved today. Unlike Pam's smart animals, mine are a little dense and think she's a new cat (we go through this every year) so the cats are hissing at her and the dogs are chasing her. For the moment, I have two hummingbird babies in my care. I probably shouldn't have them in my care, but they are remedial when it comes to flying and I keep finding them flapping around on the ground in the backyard. Not a good place to be when two dogs and three cats live here. I keep putting them back in the nest by letting them perch on a twig and putting them back up. I haven't touched them, but I'm afraid that I've probably ticked off mama bird anyway. Connie

This is so much fun to read.......thanks Connie Alton had a vistor yesterday while he was up in the area of our backyard where he has built a shed....a Barn Owl. He has already had some baby birds born....hope all our visitors are friendly! At least the babies are inside animals and cannot get to them.

We are a interesting group of individuals who's pets are just as interesting as we are! Martha your animals sound as sweet as you are. One of my cats loves to get and give attention when I am on the "throne"! Sounds like your cat does the same thing. Why do they do that? I'm thinking that at my place its becasue with all my babies its hard to give individual attention. All "children" want and need that individual attention so my Hammie - 1/2 Hymalayn 1/2 who-knows will grab what she can when she can if it means that mommie is reading a newspaper or magazine then she's going to sit right on the center fold. Or if mommy wakes during the night 1/2 asleep then thats a perfect time to climb into her lap, put your paws on each side of her face and rub your whiskers against her. Carpe de um(?) Connie your house sounds as crazy as mine. You really should quit your job and write for a living. Maybe we could all write a book! We could title it gastic by pass people and the pets that love them. I think that our pet stories are even more iteresting than our by pass stories. well maybe not totally but they are a very close 2nd. love and god bless, pam

Belive me Pam...when they jump on you while you are not sleeping, you donot belive them as "sweet". We had lunch guest today and they did not come out and meet our visitors until most everyone was gone.......They are quiet shy I guess. But we love them anyways.........When you get ready to write the book, let me know....JR will be a hit!

Laela is a 5 year old friesian mare and I think I'd be certifiable if I didn't have her luxurious mane to cry into. I still miss my collie, Sophie, more than I can say. My marathon walks are empty without her. We have two cats, Ginger and her daughter, Arle Cleo. And we just acquired three chickens, with the following names, dubbed by Jillian: Nugget, Tender, and Patty (as in, "Come and meet my chicken Patty! Say hellow to my chicken Nugget!" You get the picture) They are free ranging and should start laying eggs in about 3 weeks - now if only they could pee gasoline to fuel my car... Maureen
