It gave me pause for thought
I'm in no way justifying the teen or his parents behavior, but don't you have to wonder what role obesity, and the prejudice that accompanies it, played in this story?

How do we teach people how to treat others?
Joy
Joy,
I'm always amazed at the way we treat other humans. How is it that we don't teach our children to think about the feelings of others? I remember two times as an adult when a stranger resorted to insulting me because of my weight. I remember how hurt I was and can't imagine how I would have felt as a child who has been relentlessly tormented.
And here's the thing that amazes me, obesity is becoming the norm. The boats at Disneyland's Small World are now bottoming out because people are heavier than they were when the ride was first built. People used to make fun of the obese because they were an anomoly. Not anymore and yet the obese are still a source for ridicule and scorn.
Hugs,
Connie
