Please Pray

I have an 800 pound friend who had contemplated WLS for several years. He has finally decided to go ahead with it, but in his state he is "too heavy" to meet the underwriting standards for the liability for the hospitals. My friend is terrified. Pray that he will follow through with this, even if it means that he has to change doctors, hospitals, or states. He is so afraid of the surgery, and so afraid that he will back out. What he should be more afraid of is the obesity that is killing him. I knew that you, of all people, would understand! (Makes you thankful to be where we are, doesn't it?)

my prayers go out- joy; in ohio (dunno about anywhere else) - there is a facility ( in a local nursing home) where extremely obese folks can go to "diet" supervised to a surgical ok weight. maybe there is something like this for your friend?

Joy, I will certainly say prayers for your friend. There's a doctor that speciaizes in the super MO on the East end of th country. I saw a special on TLC or Discovery about a couple of women who couldn't get anyone else to do the surgery and this guy stepped up to the plate and was successful. I'm going to search and see if I can find the surgeon's name. Hugs, Connie

University of North Carolina's Dr. William D. Heizer was featured in the documentary "627lb Woman: Jackie's Story," Heizer is a clinical professor within UNC's departments of medicine and nutrition. Maybe NC isn't too far to travel.

Tell your friend that he has an entire army of Marchers in his corner, all of whom are living fuller, healthier lives because of this surgery. Why don't you suggest he get online with our Board and we can begin talking to him - and talking him through this. He needs to get out of his head and get out of his own way. Prayers speeding his way, Joy. Love, Reenie

Joy, what's the status of your friend's plight? What can we do?
