Two things that would not have happened prior to WLS

First, I am from a big, Irish family with 26 grandkids of which the oldest is just two years younger then me. That being said, as a family we are having our first weddings of grandchildren this year as two of them are getting married this summer. The first wedding occurs on my 17th wedding anniversary. I was joking when I told my nephew that I was going to wear a power blue tux with a ruffled shirt to renew my vows. Well, my brother-in-law ran with the idea and cut us a deal on "Dumb & Dumber Tuxes". So, for the wedding I going to wear a powder blue tux and he is going to wear a orange colored tux, top hats and canes. First of all prior to WLS I don't know if there would have been enough powder blue material available to make me a tux and Omar the tent maker would have had to sew it if they could find the material. Secondly, I know that you can all appreciate this, the last thing I would want to do prior to WLS was draw attention to myself. Funny how a 500 pound guy thinks he can hide. Now, the second wedding I'll be wear a kilt. ( Donations are being taken for photo evidence of what a man wears under a kilt, a true man anyway ) My nephew has located the family plaid and all the men in the family and the complete wedding party will be wearing the family tartan. I'm sure the sheep are happy because I doubt there would have been enough of them to make me a kilt at 500 pounds. You know sometimes I can't believe it, like this morning as I grabbed my pants only to realize that they are 22 inches smaller then what I wore two years prior. Anway, hoped I brighten your day with a litle humor. Have a great one, make it a great day.

I remember trying to be the 286 pound elephant, trying not to be noticed! Isn't that funny? I still have scars, I'm still overweight at 25 pounds over the ideal and I just don't care so I let it hang (so to speak). It is what it is. I'm proud of you. Wear that blue tux with pride and on kilt day, let the little man wave! Connie

And people think the little "purse" up front is to hold things, it really is to hold down the kilt in the wind. And thank God weight loss doesn't make all things smaller!

Hmmmmm.... so is there any correlation between the size of a man's purse and say.... his Bagpipe???? Maybe some guys need a BIG purse to keep that kilt down? Connie

Well. when one is confident that his pipe can carry a tune, he need not worry about the size of the sporran holding down his kilt. Besides, maybe an oversized sporran is an attempt to fill a void.

Kilts are very sexy. Every year, a bag pipe group has a parade on the boardwalk here in Ocean City. It's the high point of my summer. And don't forget the knee socks. Yes, I want pictures...and no, not of what's underneath...that ruins the whole mystique! Joanie

Oh, we have it all. Prince Charlie jacket and vest, Ghillie brogue shoes, kilt hose, etc. I'm sure the cameras will be out in full force, and not for what is under.

Wow! Weddings are exciting in your family! My husband and I have a video production business. None of the weddings we do in Arkansas are as interesting as either you describe! I have Scottish ancestors--from the Clan Sinclair. I didn't know that Irish families had tartans too! Joy

Well, here is the other interesting part. His wife to be is Japanese and all of the women in the wedding will be wearing kimonos. My nephew is the guy in charge of the Lowjack systems for the Far East, Austrialia, and New Zealand. He resides in Boston. The wedding will be outside on the shores of Flathead Lake. Flathead is one of the spots all the beautiful people from LA buy when then buy Montana property. My family members were lucky enough to have purchased many years ago, long before the prices got crazy. Phil Jackson of the Lakers is just three spots down, pretty funny really. He is a really nice guy and his home is spartan by the standards for up there.
