CHECKING IN...
Hi friends. I've missed you! I went to NYC for 4 days and I gotta say, am exhausted today, finally getting home to Connecticut. What a whirlwind of activity! I reunited with several old, very dear friends whom I had not seen in over 20 years! I walked and walked and walked -- even in my 20s when I lived in NYC I could not walk like that. I must have clocked 25 miles these past few days and I was never winded, could have just kept going like the Energizer Bunny. I sang in a nightclub in the Village last night and it was very special, my husband took the train in the see me perform and my friends were there, and the place was jam packed -- and I was glitzed out in a size 4 little sequinny number that was very pretty. Unbelieveable. Anyway, that's why I haven't been around, but, oh, Auntie Em, there's no place like home! Regarding health issues, folks, pay attention to your liver function blood level results. Make sure the levels are not elevated. Although my surgeon told me my high levels were "totally unrelated" to the WLS, of course, nothing health-wise can be "totally unrelated" to a complete restructuring of the internal nutrient processing system. My current issue has to do with the way my body is processing protein -- not efficiently, in my case -- and my liver is screaming, "red alert, red alert, danger to the entire system!" It is, in otherwords, in overdrive most all of the time because I am malnurished, despite the fact that I am ingesting almost 100grams of protein daily. This situation is potentially quite serious and can result in cirrosus of the liver, or liver cancer down the road. It is also quite rare, so my doctor (PCP) is trying to figure out how to manage thie condition. On another matter, I have recently found a lump in my breast that has me terrified; will get a mamagram posthaste this week - it came out of nowhere and has doubled in size in the last 24 hours. My sister had a total mastectomy last year because of an incredibly aggressive form of breast cancer. Ladies, keep a vigilen****chful eye on this, take good care of yourselves. Gotta run, so much work to do after just getting home. Love you tons, guys. Maureen
Hi Reenie,
Glad to have you Home!! You were missed. I will be sending healing prayers your way for the above mentioned problem, for everything to
check out just fine. Take care & keep us posted on your health issues
when you find out. How did your little talk go with the Big Wigs of Government or have you done that yet?
Marilyn, the Bearlady
Hi Marilyn, thanks. I forgot to mention the legislative testimony; it went fairly well (on Tuesday of last week) I think. There were a couple of notable WLS surgeons there, including Dr. Aranow, who performed my surgery (and Mike's and Pam's). They all testified as well. The bottom line is this issue is about the bottom line -- money -- I stressed in my testimony that it costs more to keep morbidly obese people alive with all the necessary medications and interventions than it does to have the surgery. I'll let you know when I hear something. Take care, Maureen
Hi Maureen;
It sounds like you had quite the trip to NYC!!!!! Welcome home. I'm not at all happy about your health issues, partner. I hope that you and your docs are keeping on top of all of this??!! It goes without saying, my friend, that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care and stay in touch.
Mike
Well....the liver sonogram suggests that everything is ok right now, no evident damage. Now we'll begin monitoring and altering diet and vitamins to see if we can stablize the elevated numbers. My doc wants me to double the daily vitamins and add another 30 grams of protein - yikes! I have a mamogram scheduled for next Tuesday and will certainly let you know the outcome, hopefully just a cyst. Thanks sweetie. Maureen
