Three weeks post for the Dawg
Had my three week post op visit the other day, had another drain pulled and all is well. I went back to work full time this past week and started back at the gym. All I can do at the gym is walk, but at least it is something, I just don't want to lose so much of what I worked hard to gain, so I getting up early and walking the treadmill. But it keeps me in the habit of going.
If all goes as planned, I'll get the final drain removed next Wednesday and they will begin to remove staples. The plan is to pull every third one this week, every other one in two weeks and the final ones in three weeks, which at that point I'll be released to 100%. All and all, this surgery has gone well.
Hey Ken, that's great news. I'm glad you're doing so well. I'm sure that it's frustrating not to be able to do your full workout, but you are doing the right thing by sticking to the treadmill for now. The worst thing that you can do is get "****y" because you feel good and end up setting yourself back. You just had some serious surgery and it's going to take a bit of time. Hang in there partner.....you're doing the right thing.
I know that re-hab is frustrating because I'm dealing with it as a result of my rotator cuff surgery last fall. It's been 5 months and I'm just getting somewhat back to normal!! I'm dying to do some serious upper- body work, but I need to go easy until the shoulder is 100%. My upper body needs serious work, but I just have to take it slow for a while longer.
Good luck and wishing you continued success in your recovery. I look to you as my example of "doing it right" when I start to go back to my old ways. Take care and stay well.
Mike
Hi Ken - I'm amazed that you had to keep your drains in for so long - all of mine were removed a week post-op from the LBL. Glad you're feeling better; I am still very low on energy (6 weeks post-op tomorrow) but feeling better every day. It will be so GREAT to get back to working out, can't wait! Take care, my friend. My Dr. says they stay in until they do not draw 20cc a day. My last one is still pullng about 100 a day at this writing, so I may not get it out tomarrow. Oh well, doesn't bother me much anyway, so I really don't care. All the shirts I had prior now have enough room that you really can't see it anyway.
I was going great guns on the energy until I caught a cold. I haven't had a cold in two years, but this sucker hit me hard. I will survive.
