scared straight
Yes, I'm still here! I lurk and read alot, but had to share something. Tomorrow I am going for my first colonoscopy. I'm not worried about the test, but the prep is ugly. Because of my constipation problem, I have to prep for THREE DAYS. Talk about a pain in the...well you know. LITERALLY. The gastro guy gave me a startling fact and I wanted to run it by you guys. He said the success rate of WLS patients drops to 20% three years post surgery. He told me that as long as people do not change their lifestyle, your pouch settles, can hold more food, people get back up to their old weight. He went over my diet with me, what I eat on a daily basis, told me not to worry, that I was a success story, ate right and looked great. But it REALLY scared me to hear that. I still have that 10 pounds I gained that I'm trying to get rid of. It's murder, but I am careful with what I eat.

JOANIE!!!!! I'm so happy to see your post. First, I agree with every single word shared with you by the Gastro Guy. And we've got to be vigilent about recommiting every day to those behaviors we worked so hard to change. I am seeing a tremendous rate of re-gain in the SG meetings I'm involved with in CT. And, yes, I'm scared....how WONDERFUL for your daughter! And for you...reminds me of the time we took Jillian to the New England Aquarium in Boston for her birthday; I had arranged for the walrus trainer to call Jillian up to assist with the walrus show - she turned three shades of white when she heard her name! Not exactly Josh Groban but still a male with great teeth... PLEASE DON'T STAY AWAY!!! Love, Reenie
joanie...by now your test is over-and praying for you that all is well.
i wanted to respond to the comment about the failure rate--i am here to tell ya that at 3+ years out my tool is still working and i can prove it- in april i was given size 16 jeans with zipper (not a woman's 16) and they wouldn't come up over my thighs- end of june i am wearing them and yesterday i bought a 14 P pair-tried them on for the heck of it last nite and they fit! they zip without lying down!!!
i have been much more mindful of portions and really watching the "snacks"!
we do have to remain vigilent and we need to stick together!
