Just a pinch
Hey everyone! Since the surgery my tastes in what I like to eat have changed. I now LOVE butternut squash! Before I couldn't even look at it! It was healthy stuff that I just didn't like the taste of. Now I can't live without it.
Tonight for supper I have 1/2 of a small butternut squash steamed on my grill in alumnium foil with a tiny bit of butter and a tiny sprinkly of brown sugar dash of pepper. YUm it was awesome! I also had 2 to 3 oz of sirloin burger on the grill too. The dog got the left overs of the burger. I'm stuffed like i had a thanksgiving dinner from many years ago.
Its funny, I took a 1/2 day from work today to get somethings done at home. I planted some bulbs perfect weather for it. I'm sure I'm going to love to see those crocus pop their heads up come next march! Then I went to the bank, post office, and grocery store. I had a craving for the squa****here was still about 3 hours til dinner. I was so hungry for that squash but I woudlnt 'eat anything I wanted to be able to enjoy it. while it was cooking the smell was coming through the slider and my mouth was watering! My stomach was actually growling! I wanted to bad to grab a snack but I didn't.
OOOOO the first bite was wonderful. It melted in my mouth. I had put one mini marshmellow in the hollowed out part of the squash and wow it was perfect. such a simple meal something I enjoyed so much that i had missed for many years. my daughter called and asked what i'd made for dinner. she wants me to bring her the other 1/2 of the squash...should I? hummm if i say that I forgot it she might come over tomorrow at lunch time and eat it!!!!! where can i hide it??? ut oh!!!! I'm gonna take that thing over to my daughter right now! its the right thing to do! my little girl wants the squash!
anyone else have this strange thing happen to them? no not just about the squash! but the change is tastes? even chocolate doesnt thrill me like it did. I can honestly say I've had 2 maybe 3 bites only of chocolate and not finished it at all. it doesn' ttaste right. Kinda like when you use to drink whole milk then switched to skim and if you drink whole milk it tastes slimey. its that kind of feeling for me about chocolate. i sure do hope that lasts!
Hi Pam;
I'm totally with you on the squash thing!!! Butternut squash is like eating candy without the guilt!! We also use just a bit of butter and brown sugar. I think that doing small things like that make food more interesting without a huge cost in calories. I believe that something that makes good food taste like a treat will help you avoid something much worse at snack time. You might also try the same thing with acorn squash. I love all of the winter squa****'s the candy of the veggie world!
CHEERS!
Mike
The squash sounds fabulous....now you got me in the mood for it, I'll have to get one today! The brown sugar? Since my surgery, I have become the Splenda queen. Now they actually make a brown sugar, it just came out. My boyfriend swears Splenda has an aftertaste, but I bake with it all the time and he can't tell. I wish I could share your feelings for chocolate. While it's true I can only have a few bites, I savor them....and never in the middle of the day because then I have to go to sleep after I eat it. We went to dinner and a movie last week and I was tempted to taste some, but I didn't because I knew I'd sleep through the movie. It really is the Satan of foods.....the devil in food form.
Well, time to get ready for my new home away from home...the gym.
Have a great weekend!!!
