Oil Heat Question
This question is for anyone with oil heat. I'd ask Connie directly but I believe she lives in a much warmer climate and might not have the answer. Then again I am in awe of all the things that she knows so here goes!
I have oil heat. I saw a program that says you could save a potential amount of oil each year just by turning off the burner during warmer weather of course. You would need to turn it back on to heat the water for when you need ho****er.
I now live alone and thought i'd give it a try. This is the first week and I've not had any problems. I've been afraid that I might do damage so how to the furnace but turning it off then on each day. I've only needed to do that once a day when I get up for showers. I only use my dishwasher once a week and will turn it on for that this weekend. Laundry is always done with cold water for me.
I will say right off the bat that Ilike not hearing that thing come on during the daytime. \the furnace is off of my den and its loud when it comes on! plus why other than to heat the water would it need to be on durin the summer? I have noticed that its much cooler in my den now too.
I thnk I'm not only save on oil but on electric bill too.
In these days of everything going up im' just trying to save anywhere i can.
I'm no help at all. I did grow up in the MidWest and we did have oil heat, but I was a kid and didn't pay attention except when we couldn't afford to fill the tank and I had to sleep in my coat. I tried to google this for you, but didn't get anywhere.
One of the things I'm thinking about doing is getting an inline water heater. It only heats the water you are using as the water passes through. You don't have to heat a whole tank.
Hugs,
Connie
morning connie,
i've asked so many people about the oil heat/turn off thing. the answer i keep getting is its fine to do it it coudl help the life of the furnace by not runnign as much. so far its been a week an wow is it nice not to listen to that thing coming on when it is 90 degrees outside and i'm not using the ho****er. that right there makes me happy. plus it heated up my den which is hot enough no air condtioning in that room along with my hot flashes YES! its working. i'll keep you posted when i get my next electric bill as to if it effected that and i'm goin to eye that oil tank thing but i think thats going to be heard to figure out until a year goes by.
I've heard about those water heaters too! when i asked one of my cstuoemrs about what i'mdoing he told me he want's to install one of those i nhis house. he has one in his business and loves it. its saved him alot of money.
either way i'm liking it.
