Has anyone experienced this since surgery? I am not sure if the Restless Leg Syndrone that I now seem to have is a result of WLS or not. My PCP seems to think not. I did not notice the restless legs until I had a blood transfussion in June due to a lower GI bleed. I was on Xanax for a while to help me sleep. Since coming off that, I have experinced the restless legs many times in the past month and almost nightly the past two weeks. In readling articles related to this, there is not much cure. Quinine did not help me. The doctor put me on a new drug today called Requip to see if that would help. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I know other family members have it including my mom.

Martha~ Hello to you. I seem to get this problem when I do not get enough fluids in. Normally the Quinine works for me. However, I have also found that if I drink a sports drink during the day like Powerade it seems to help me out. Replacing the electrolytes in your body can help with the restless leg feeling. Hope this info helps out. Marissa

I had episodes of this before surgery, but not so much since then. I do get similar leg symptoms that turn into muscle cramps if I do not head them off with potassium supplements. This is just an occasional thing though, but you might try potassium to see if it helps. Joy

Restless Leg Syndrome is when your legs ache, hurt or cramp. This can be caused by low electrolytes. However, my blood work is good and that is not my problem. They feel as though you need to be moving them at all times. The problem is more dominate at night when you try to rest. In most cases quinine seems to help. According to the articles I have read, there is no cure. Thanks for the suggestions. If the new med does not work, I will try some of your suggestions. The doctor gave me flexarile and told me to take quinine but both seemed not to work for me.

Hi I had it before surgery and it had gotten worst now. My PCP put me on Neurontin that helps but it leaves me so druged out duting the day, and pain meds are no help at all.

the doctor put me on a new med called requip. I have taken it for 2 nights and not had any problems. We have discussed the Neurotin as well. That is what my mom taked for neuropothy in her legs. Before the requip, nothing seemed to work. I think I just finally took enough drugs to knock me out to make me sleep to get past it rather than taking care of the problem. Several nights I took tylenol PM, quinine, flexirile and then an hour later since nothing helped lortab or something similiar that I still had in my cabinet. I told my doctor I was getting desparate at that point and taking all those meds scared me. My blood test has shown all my levels were good.
