What do you think about having gastric bypass surgery outside the US? Any reccomendations?

I have been having a heck of a time getting approval from my insurance company for gastric bypass. I'm so frustrated I'm considering going to India or Mexico. I'm in the process of researching these areas and their surgeons. Anyone out there had surgery in either of these places or know someone who has?

Deana, I don't know anything about going abroad to have this surgery; I do know that going abroad to have any kind of elective surgery has gotten great buzz in the media. Good luck with this and let us know how it all turns out for you. Best, Reenie

I think there is a forum on OH that deals with out of country surgery. They may be able to help, if you haven't been there already. We used to have someone on this board, Dina, who had surgery in Mexico and she did very well. I haven't seen her in months and months though. I know that some people who have had the band in Mexico have had problems getting fills here in the US when they get back. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you. BTW, it took me a year, three tries a lawyer and the state insurance commision to finally get insurance approval. Don't give up. Connie
