Is anybody having a problem with carbs? All of a sudden it seems like when I do eat carbs, I get very sleepy. I see my Dr this morning for my after care follow-up. Maybe that is a good thing?

Sharon, what works for me is a balance of healthy, complex carbs (no refined starches or sugars, I get my carbs from fruits and vegetables and an occasional pice of whole grain or whole wheat bread) with strong protein choices. You might want to check your sugar levels -- low blood sugar will make you sleepy. Best of luck, Reenie

I was just thinking about this topic yesterday. I think Reenie is right, I think it is the kind of carbs we eat. Refined sugar, as I've said before, is like a drug for me. I actually have to lay down if I have a few spoonfulls of dessert (which I stopped doing when we go out for dinner). I also am being more mindful of the kind of carbs I eat---whole wheat bread, oatmeal, that kind of thing. See what your doctor says, I'd like to know his/her opinion on this. Thanks, Joanie

Evil carbs. They make my blood my blood sugar levels go whacky and I feel like crapola. They're so addicting though and I still find myself sorely tempted. Connie

Ah..... the carbs. Yes Sharon, carbs are a problem for me too. I'm better about them than I once was, but it's still a daily battle for me. Some days are better than others, but the old hunting adage applies here...."Sometimes you get the bear.....Sometimes the bear gets you"!! Mike

Yup, Been there & done that!! Carbs can be a killer & after you eat the sugury or refined sugar ones you will want more of them. As the others have said be a little more selective on what carbs you are eating & try mixing them with some protein. I would also get my sugars checked, could be you have turned into a hypoglycemic which is possible after WLS. Hope you get the answers you need when you see your Dr. Marilyn, the Bearlady
