I've been having some financial difficulties along with the need for things like gas so I decided to look for a little part time job. Just to work on sat & sundays. I went to my local dunkin donuts and spoke with the owner. Job applications are something I've not filled out in along time. Usually I just submit a resume but this wasn't that type of a job. So we talked about this and that and the needs I had. I told him that I had some medical bills that I wanted to clean up due to some surgery I'd had a year and half ago. He said I hope everything is ok is it something that could effect the job? I said well I'd had gastric by pass surgery. He said whats that? I told him how it made my stomach smaller and because I did'nt want to go into the whole surgery explaination I told him well I guess the short version is that Your donuts are safe with me. The coffee is another story! Ok I got the job. I'd like to say it was because of my fantastic interview but the truth is the college kids went back to school. So I started 4 weeks ago. I work mornings sat & sun. and let me tell you I swear never to get impatient with those people again. Do you know how many different buttons on the register there are to push for donuts? muffins? coffees? Don't even get me started on coollattas! And lattes! And flavorings! Then theres the sandwiches. Bacon, Ham, Eggs, cheese, did i mention bagels & muffins? O and how the consumer wants this stuff too. Everybody has a special way to do their coffee. The only real way is if they could go back behind the counter and do it themselves. Then that would make them the happiest cause no one is smart enough to pour that liquid into the cup exactly the way they think it should be done. I'm slow at this cause I can't find the darn buttons to request exactly what they want. then the screens are so sensitive that if you push the button slightly to the edge of the next button then you've ordered a bacon egg and cheese on a cinimon bagel instead of the harvest bagel that they wanted. by the time you try to go and delete that its already been made by the sandwich makers in the back. These people have perfected the art of makeing a bagel sandwich. if you mess with them your in trouble. you'll have to do the cleaning of the dishes at the end of the day. guess who has dish pan hands right now for the past two days? fortuanately they should heal in the next week just in time for the next sat & sunday. Sometimes I want to stand there and shout I am an intelligent person! I do a great job 5 days a week at my other job! I handle lots of money and fill out lots of forms and I type on computers too! I wear dresses with panty hose and heels! I so wanted to do a good job so when I'd take an order to make sure it was correct I'd repeat it back to the customer. This one man was just in such a hurry he leaned over the counter at my face and yelled at me! He said were you listening????? I said why yes I was sir didn't I repeat it correctly to you? The mans eyes were bulging out of his head? Maybe he'd had alittle bit too much caffeine already this morning???? If gas wasn't so high, if I still didn't have another 2k to pay off from my surgery, if I didn't have the winter coming and oil is going to go sky high too and electricty, food, the holidays, everything I'd really have to rethink this little part time 2nd job...but those things are there and I need to prepare. So, please please please go hug a dunkin donuts employee today! thank them for a good cup of coffee and remember the slow skinny old lady behind that counter is just trying to do a good job so she can pay her bills. thank you for listening. I needed to vent. i think i'll get off my soap box now and wash the blueberry flavoring off my arms.

Pam, {{{BIG HUG}}} We don't have any Dunkin Donuts places left here in Oklahoma City...so a virtual hug to you will have to do. My 19 year old son has just gone to work at Applebee's and I after dealing with him trying to learn the appetizer menu, the entree' menu, the drink menu, the alcohol menu and the dessert menu...plus everything else they have to know to be able to walk up to a table full and folks and introduce themselves....gee whiz!!!! I have an idea of what you're dealing with. It really scares me when I see the intensity of hatred in a customers eyes, when they stare down a minimum wage worker. "Consumer Rage" will be the next thing their disecting on the cable channels. Take care! Va P.S. Maybe your local Walmart needs a friendly greeter that's less than 80???

Oh my gosh....that's horrible! People are SO rude, it amazes me. We do have Dunkin Donuts here, but I never go in because there's nothing there I really eat. What we have this time of year in my town are tourists...or as the locals call them "shoobies".....the term coming from the early 1900's when people would come to the beach for the day with their belongings in a shoe box. They come to the shore and leave their manners at home....it's so amazing. They get very agitated, rude and demanding....and they are supposed to be on vacation...I can't figure it out! Well, I hope your stay at dunkin donuts is a short one.... Joanie

I'm with Reenie. I'm not sure how safe those donuts would be! Yes, I would dump, but I probably would give in anyway and just pay the consequences! I admire you for putting up with what you are dealing with. Maybe it is the effects of sugar addiction that is making people so mean!! Joy

Pam, I'm really appaled at how rude customers are to people who work in customer service. My son is a site manager for a glass company. He was at a car wash to replace someone's windshield and went to take off the radio antenae before working on the windshield. The guy jumped out of his car and slugged my son in the chest screaming "Don't touch my car!" I don't know how in the world Danny kept from decking the guy, but he kept his cool. He explained that he couldn't replace the windhield without removing the antenae and the guy flipped out. Danny and the car wash manager threw the guy off the property, but jeez. Danny also delivers pizzas at night in addition to the day job and comes across some cranky people in that job too. I was at a conference with one of my bosses for the last 4 days. This guy makes six figures, but never left a tip for anyone. He's normally a nice guy, just not too generous. I always tip the baggage guys, bell boys, drivers, maids, etc. so found it embarrassing that the rich guy I work for was so darned cheap. Maybe that's why he's the rich guy and I'm the poor girl.
