Call Me Stupid!!!
Nah, you have to live and learn buddy! I'll add to the do not eat list for me and maybe others. Last night after dinner. ( We tend to have a big family dinner on Sundays) My wife and sister in law decided to go to DQ for a treat. I said I'd try their Sugar Free fudge bar. Well, first it isn't Sugar Free, it is no sugar added. To add to my pain, I had to play cop last night. Lets just say as unpleasant as the back door trots can be, add to it the bonus of having to drop trow while wearing a duy belt loaded with handcuffs, pepper spray, radio, baton, and a gun.
I glad you were able to recover, and the experience will be etched in your mind for times to come. At least you made the right choice for dinner.
Keep at it.
Thanks Ken;
What annoys be about this one is that it was totally preventable. I knew damn well that that stuff is loaded with sugar and just let it slip my so-called mind.
As to your experience, I can imagine how tough it is to have the trots with all of that gear you carry. On my job, I need to carry a portable radio, cell phone and pager on my belt and that's a pain to deal with, so all of that police gear must be totally maddening!! It's amazing how many foods have "sneak sugar" in them..... so we really need to be careful. I can handle a small portion of sugared dessert, but a whole serving is out of the question.

I am in the same line.
Saturday afternoon I realized that I had not eaten lunch and was scheduled to meet "a new guy" at the movies at 7:30. So I decided I better eat some left over chicken wings that my roommate had baked on Friday night. I put 5 on my plate and nuked them. As I was eating, I was checking my email as I had been gone most of the day, babysitting and being at the nursing home with mom. Therefore I really did not pay attention to the way I was eating.
Soon I noticed a pain in my pouch area. I almost doubled over with the pain. My roommate kept asking me what was wrong and all I could say is "I hurt". So I go to the necessary room, hoping I can upchuck or something to get rid of the pain. No such luck. And who should send me an instant message while all of this was going on? You guessed it,,,,the guy I had the date with. The guy that I am in meet within an hour and half. I go back to the computer trying to act "normal" and Fran is trying to help me figure out what to do to stop the pain. She gets me green tea that I sip. The more I sip, when it gets to my pouch, the more it hurts. I tried tums. I finally got off the computer, made myself belch and get in the recliner and make it as horizontal as possible. Some how it all passed and I was able to leave about 10 minutes later than scheduled for the date.
While all of this is going on....Fran and I are trying to figure out why and what happened. All we can think of is 1) maybe the wings had sat in the pan and soaked up more grease than they had the night before, although we used paper towels to get off any/all excess fat. 2) I have trouble with some left overs. 3) I was nervous about meeting the "new" guy.
It is not always what you eat. And no matter how careful I think I am, it is not always going to be ok. As I layed in the recliner hurting all I could think of was which hospital should I go to and did I have a stricture. and how understanding would this guy be. But most important, if he did not understand, it was meant to be that way.
By the way, he was running late too, I got there before he did, we had a nice time and we plan to see each other again. AND, I had told him about my weight loss journey and he saw my pictures before I met him.
I do eat sugar, but not on a daily basis. We go out for ice cream occassionally, and while I would have had an entire cup, now I settle for 3 or 4 spoonfuls. We order dessert with dinner, and again, we split it in 2 or 3 ways and still don't fini**** Again, I'm happy with a few forkfuls or spoonfuls...a little taste goes a long way for me. I hear a lot of people eat yogurt every day. Talk about loaded with sugar! Even the low fat yogurt has sugar. I think sugar is a 'trigger' thing for a lot of people---once you start you can't stop kind of thing. I was told by someone who had the surgery many years ago and kept her weight off successfully----you can eat whatever you want...only in small doses. So, will I call you stupid? NO. I will call you a man who is living his life and going through the eating trial and errors we all go through. But you are right, Mike....sugar does make me sleepy. We went to a beachfront restaurant last night and my boyfriend ordered banana fudge ice cream. I had my few spoonfuls, and promply went home and took a 1/2 hour nap. Sugar does not make me feel good. Once it got through my system, I did feel better. I still think I'm doing fine, though. Before WLS, I'd have ordered my own ice cream, I would have eaten the whole thing, and picked on his. So, I'm still ahead of the game. Now stop beating yourself up, go out, be well, and have fun!!!

Hi Joanie;
I too can usually handle a small amount of sugar, but this one was way over the limit. What really scared me was how it affected my driving. I was not feeling sleepy, but almost drunk. Thankfully, I was only a few blocks from home when it started to hit me and I didn't get the full effect until I got home! Scary Stuff!!
Mike
You're right about the sugar. It tastes good while I eat it, but afterwards I feel, well...for lack of a better term....crappy. It makes me want to sleep. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I ate a large amount of sugar...like a whole dessert or a cup of ice cream. It was so strange with me this past weekend because I felt fine before I ate, and as soon as we got back home, I fell into a deep sleep for about 1/2 an hour. I have a new name for it. Sugar Coma. Or, in your case, we can call it the Sugar Drunks. At any rate, thank God for the signals we get that tell us we have to stop. And no, I STILL won't call you stupid.
Joanie
ahhhh...don't worry about it the stupid bench is VERY FULL!!!
as for me and my brain we are at odds these days@@
sugar isn't a really big problem for me, so my mom who was workingi n my classroom says you can buy me a donut! Great!
I figured I would order a hole and a light juice and be happy!
BUT NO HOLES!
How wrong is that???
so not even thinking I order the donut and my juice and ate 1/2 and drank the juice...ugh!
DRUNK is really the way I felt! It was the darndest thing...oh well...live and learn! I guess, she didn't believe me anyway when I was like you have to drive back to school LOL
