Hi there Marchers I was really dumb yesterday. I decided to share my stupidity as a reminder to you all how easy it is to make a bad food choice. I was visiting a couple of old friends yesterday and we decided to go out to lunch. I made a good choice for my lunch in that they had a tuna salad plate as one of their lunch specials. It was very tasty and didn't have anything too corrupt on it. Unfortunately, it also came with a choice of desserts and here's where MR. Dumbass got in trouble!! The choices were: rice pudding, chocolate pudding, and jello....all with whipped cream. Being the smart boy that I am, I decided on the jello.....hold the whipped cream. I have been so accustomed to eating sugar-free jello, that I'd totally forgotten that the "real stuff" is loaded with sugar!!! WOW!!!!! What a sugar rush I got!!!!!! I was a mess for hours after that. I didn't have all of the syptoms of dumping, but I think that my blood sugar must have been totally out of whack!! I felt like I was driving under the influence on the way home. It was pretty scarey stuff. I finally came back to earth and was falling asleep on the couch around 8 pm last night. Anyway, I just wanted to pass on my own stupidity in the hope that it reminds you that you need to be careful with your choices. The most innocent mistake can really throw you for a loop!!!! Mike

Hey Margo; Isn't it amazing how much of the stuff we love from the "Previous Life" contain a ton of sugar. No wonder so many of us end up as diabetics. Mike

Mike, You are SO not alone! I was doing my multi-tasking mom thing last night - getting the kids fed, cleaning up the kitchen, doing laundry and trying to eat dinner myself. Well, I had a chili-dog - beef, light, lean chili, wheat bread - not TOO bad. However, as I was multi-tasking, I forgot to really chew my food. That oh so familiar wave came over me and I made a bee line to the potty. I saw that chili-dog again - just coming up instead of going in. It was not pretty. I'm still amazed that after all this time I still forget the simpliest rule - chew, chew, chew. I won't be making that mistake again for a while....and I won't be eating chili-dogs for a while! We're in this together - stupid or not! ;o) -Wendy

Hi Wendy; I guess it's a sign that we are starting to feel pretty "normal" when we make these mistakes. When we were "newbies" and not feeling great, we never would have done these foolish things. I'm trying to break my old habits and look at the bright side of this situation. CHEERS!! Mike

Hey Stupid, Its nice to know the rest of us are not alone in this awakening you had. We all have done it & yes pay for it in the end. We do forget there is stuff out there that we CAN NOT eat. Mine was the chocolate cake a few weeks ago. Yup that darn sugar got me too!! Once upon a time could eat awhole cake or box of donuts. I think thats why we had to have this surgery in the first place. Ya think!! Glad to hear you had a wake up call. & you are doing better today. Marilyn, The Bearlady

Hi Marilyn; I guess that I've had so few problems with food that I got a bit above myself. It's good to get a good swift boot in the butt....or stomach as the case may be. Stupid

Line me up for the stupid group. a few weeks ago i went for ice cream with my kids. i had a 1/2 cup of regular strawberry ice cream. i didn't even eat the whole 1/2 cup! i felt like i had had a keg of beer. I was sluring my words and fell asleep. truthfully i laugh about it now and am very careful but it did scare me to have something as simple as a very small amount of sugar ice cream make me feel so drunk. it did make me even more careful. something i am finding now too is that i am getting over confident with the chewing thing. i still eat very slowly but there are some times when i'm not chewing as well as i think i should. i will feel fuller quicker which isn't a good hting cause when that has happened i've not eaten all of the protein that i should have so my meal doens' tlast me as long as it hsould. when i get hungry in between and snack i'm not always eating the right thing. or maybe even too much.
