what we eat...
Hi gang!
The more time that goes by, the more I am analyzing what goes into my mouth and how it affects me. I've noticed that I can eat a lot of certain foods and not have a problem, and other things I can't have more than a few bites without feeling super full. I go out to eat A LOT and it can vary from restaurant to restaurant. I'd like to ask a question of all of you:
"What foods can you eat a large amount of, and what foods make you full after a few bites?"
Thanks for the input as usual!
Joan
For me its the thickness/consistance(?). Does that make sense? If its dry like cold turkey I can't eat more than a few bites. If its an egg I can eat sometimes 2. Yogurt I could eat alot of. A baked potato just a small one and I'm stuffed. Oatmeal yummmmmmm alot. I had a french fry the other night and sat there munching it very slowly its the first one I've had since surgery. I couldn't remember why I use to love them so much! They just don't do it for me anymore. YEAH!!!!!!!
Hi Joanie. What I'm trying to figure out is how to get all the necessary protein in while at the same time eating 3 healthy meals a day, with a couple of healthy snacks. I really believe in the low fat way of eating in terms of total health; lots of fruits and veggies, concentrated carbs (whole grains) and low fat proteins. This way of eating, however, is difficult to do with our small pouches and having to meet those high protein needs. I love oatmeal by the way! So, just looking at that -- if I had a typical (and yummy!) low fat breakfast of 1/2 C. of oatmeal with fresh strawberries and skim milk (or soy), and my a.m. cup of black coffee -- great tasting, satisfying, HEALTHY meal -- but no protein!! So this is my struggle right now. Good post! Reenie
Hi Reenie! I have the same problem, and if I don't get the right amount of protein, I actually do get sick....I start to feel very weak and light headed, even though I ate...if it isn't enough protein. I thought I'd be able to forgo my protein shakes, but I don't think I can. I hate them, really. I try to eat those south beach cereal thingies and the power crunch cookie things they advertise on this site-I also found them at the Vitamin Shoppe, and they're quite good. We went out for Indian food the other day, and I can only manage a few bites of chicken before I get that full feeling, and I know that isn't enough protein. We went to Greenwich Village and I was light headed by the time I got back. I'm a big rice and beans girl, I love the stuff, but again, it's healthy but not enough protein, really (even though the beans have protein). I snack on cheese and nuts because it's protein. I'd love to snack more on raw carrots and veggies and stuff like that....but again...no protein. It is difficult!

Hi Joan;
I find that I can't eat a lot of bread any more which is great because bread was one of my big downfalls in the bad old days. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for pasta. I can eat a lot of it if I'm not careful. I also can't eat a lot of dense meat such as pork chops or steak ,although I can eat a good sized burger.....Go figure??!! Also, some days I can just eat more in general than others. I don't know why this is so. On the subject of protein, I find that I like to have low fat cottage cheese with fresh fruit such as blueberries or strawberries for breakfast. It's filling and a good source of protein and calcium and the fruit helps keep me regular. As I told Reenie, I also like the low fat cheese sticks as a protein snack.
CHEERS!
Mike
...that's funny...I can eat bread and fill up quickly on pasta! I agree about the denser meats like steak---especially leaner cuts. I found that "Lean Pockets" Ultra makes a Supreme Pizza version--it's 250 calories and 24 grams of protein. It's not the crunchy crust kind, but is softer with a wheat type crust...it's filling and good for the calories and grams of protein. I'm with you on the cottage cheese thing--I eat it pretty much every day at work. Thanks for the input!---Joanie
