Did I even have surgery??
Hi,
I had my surgery on March 2 and I feel the same way. Then the other day I had a rude awakening I over ate. I felt miserable and forgot I had surgery and what I had gone through, now I'm keeping a food journal to keep me on track. I'm doing the water loading before eating, but I still am very hungry every 3-4 hours. I was drinking pop/soda and the thing is I didn't drink it before surgery now I have to have it, so we are not keeping any in the house and it's free at work which is hard but I haven't had any in 2 days (okay I had a sip). My typical day is B oatmeal, L chicken/fish/or PBJ if lunch stinks and some popcorn (for some reason I'm craving), snack is PB&J on crackers, D chicken/fish or little pasta, and snack is frozen fruit bar. I have been craving sweets and carbs lately and gained 4-5 lbs and got really scared and I just don't want to go through it all over again. I'm trying to be very conscious of what I put in my mouth. I went grocery shopping after work today and was getting hungry and was tempted to buy junk but I kept saying "you lost 2 lbs and that's the direction you want to go in."
You're doing a great job and don't beat yourself up. It's great that you are asking the question to keep yourself on track. I enjoy this site because you get other people's perspective and see that a lot of people feel the same way you do.
Take care.
Angela,
I think you're doing wonderfully and I wouldn't worry about getting a smaller pouch. My surgeon makes teeny, tiny pouches and I've managed to stuff in most of a 6 inch sub. I removed 1/2 of the bread, but no one was more surprised than me when I looked down and realized all the guts of the sub were in my own gut. Now I make sure that I order what they call a quick bite, which is 1/2 of a 6 inch sub. That way I CAN'T eat a 6 inch sub.
I have issues off and on with over-eating and binge eating. What has helped tremendously is to make snacks ahead of time and put them in baggies. I put a fridge in my office at work and keep sugar-free pudding, cheese cubes and carrots and celery on hand. Before I did that, I found myself wandering to the snack shop on the 9th floor and buying crap a couple of times a day.
Hang in there, we've all been in the same place you are and we'll all get through this together.
Connie
