Dizzy Broad
I was in a meeting today, standing at the white board, trying to convince the others in the room that I am the center of the universe, when my universe started to spin - with a vengence. It was like when I was 18, drank way too much tequila and got the spins. This time, no tequila. I had to sit down and it didn't pass for at least an hour. I was shaking, sweating, freezing and generally not too comfy. I was just thinking about getting someone to drive me home when it started to let up.
I just had my labs done and my blood work couldn't be more perfect. My doctor is jealous. I had eaten 1/2 of a 6 inch turkey sub on low carb bread about 2 hours before, was well hydrated and hadn't had caffeine for about 6 hours. I've had drops in blood sugar before, but nothing like this. I had another mini episode tonight and still feel a little shakey. Anyone else have this experience? Any ideas?
Connie
Connie, are you checking your blood pressure regularly? If it's not blood sugar related, I would suspect blood pressure, although the feeling cold part doesn't add up. I'm gonna do a little research and will get back to you - in the meantime, keep close tabs on this and if these episodes continue, get yourself to ER, don't mess with this. Love, Reenie
Boy - I'm glad you wrote this because I keep forgetting to write pretty much the same exact thing. I have gotten this way in the past on several occasions. My bloodwork has been good too.
It could be blood pressure, certainly. But I know one time I did this I was with my husband and son at a play center. I had to just get home before I felt like I was going to pass out. We took separate cars, so I just went home. DH asked while I was there if I should eat something. I told him no - I wasn't hungry and I had eaten not too long before that anyway.
Well, when I got home, the feeling of dizziness wasn't abating and for some reason I decided I should eat something. Probably a throwback to the old days of hypoglycemia creating a kneejerk reaction for me to eat. Anyway, I ate something and within less than 30 minutes (probably more like 10-15), my dizziness was gone. That was the good part. The bad part was that I ended up eating too much on the carb front and subsequently dumped.
But until I dumped, I felt sooooooooo much better.
I don't know if it was a fluke at the time or if it was indeed blood sugar related, but you might give a little food a try next time anyway - even if it seems illogical.

hey you! i've had the same thing happen several times - my bloodwork has been fine. they said they heard some irregularities in my heart, then i had an abnormal (at rest ekg), so they had me wear a heart monitor for 24 hours. i was scared to death because all of my family has horrible heart problems (my dad has congestive heart failure, my mom has heart disease, and my sister had a heart attack at 42 (she's never been overweight a day in her life and has never smoked - i've smoked since i was 16)). but, the monitor results all came back fine. i have no idea what's causing the dizziness...
hope you (and i) can figure out what's going on...
take care,
kym
My blood pressure has always tended to be rather low, but since surgery, it is much lower and I tend to get the dizzy "about to pass out" feeling when I stand up, especially on an empty stomach. It helps when I drink more water--I guess it increases the volume of blood. I have never had the problem sitting, so I haven't worried about driving. Talk to your doc, Connie!

By the way, Missy, I cannot allow you to refer to yourself as a Broad, dizzy or otherwise! There is nothing broad about you, not anymore -- dizzy Dame, maybe, but broad? No way, not you, you skinny thing you... have a good weekend! Are you feeling better, both physically and in terms of ending it with The Dude? Hugs, Reenie
