Dizzy Broad

I was in a meeting today, standing at the white board, trying to convince the others in the room that I am the center of the universe, when my universe started to spin - with a vengence. It was like when I was 18, drank way too much tequila and got the spins. This time, no tequila. I had to sit down and it didn't pass for at least an hour. I was shaking, sweating, freezing and generally not too comfy. I was just thinking about getting someone to drive me home when it started to let up. I just had my labs done and my blood work couldn't be more perfect. My doctor is jealous. I had eaten 1/2 of a 6 inch turkey sub on low carb bread about 2 hours before, was well hydrated and hadn't had caffeine for about 6 hours. I've had drops in blood sugar before, but nothing like this. I had another mini episode tonight and still feel a little shakey. Anyone else have this experience? Any ideas? Connie

Connie, are you checking your blood pressure regularly? If it's not blood sugar related, I would suspect blood pressure, although the feeling cold part doesn't add up. I'm gonna do a little research and will get back to you - in the meantime, keep close tabs on this and if these episodes continue, get yourself to ER, don't mess with this. Love, Reenie

Boy - I'm glad you wrote this because I keep forgetting to write pretty much the same exact thing. I have gotten this way in the past on several occasions. My bloodwork has been good too. It could be blood pressure, certainly. But I know one time I did this I was with my husband and son at a play center. I had to just get home before I felt like I was going to pass out. We took separate cars, so I just went home. DH asked while I was there if I should eat something. I told him no - I wasn't hungry and I had eaten not too long before that anyway. Well, when I got home, the feeling of dizziness wasn't abating and for some reason I decided I should eat something. Probably a throwback to the old days of hypoglycemia creating a kneejerk reaction for me to eat. Anyway, I ate something and within less than 30 minutes (probably more like 10-15), my dizziness was gone. That was the good part. The bad part was that I ended up eating too much on the carb front and subsequently dumped. But until I dumped, I felt sooooooooo much better. I don't know if it was a fluke at the time or if it was indeed blood sugar related, but you might give a little food a try next time anyway - even if it seems illogical. Dina

Hey, Dina, how are you doing???? You must be just a breath away from breaking that 200 lb. mark by now -- please let us know because I am going to throw one hell of a virtual party for you! Maureen

And I just keep breathing and breathing and NUTTIN! Here's what happens with me: I lose to a point and claim it, then I bounce back up a few pounds and bounce back and forth for awhile there before I drop down below. Well, I was bouncing between 206 and 211 forever, then one day last week I dropped to 205. I've now been bouncing between 205 and 208 since then. I admittedly haven't been trying much. Haven't been doing my walking and haven't been eating exactly how I should. As has always been the problem with my pouch, it started out too big and is indeed ample enough size right now that for me to lose weight, I have to eat less than I am capable of. No more mindless eating - I have to diet. Without any feeling of restriction, I can eat a 99 cent double cheeseburger from McD's, or a 6 inch veggie sub from Subway (I know - bad me, no meat, but it's not often). I mortified myself when I ate a 6 inch sub from subway. I never eat until I hurt (I did ONCE and haven't since), so I know I'm not overeating to stretch my pouch. But since I started out at 4 oz, I have just expanded to about - I'm guessing - about 10-12 ounces. So if I eat the wrong things and let myself get full, I don't lose. Lately I'm relying on Lean Cuisines and such so that I don't have to worry about over-eating for me to lose. But I think I've hit my wall for weight loss. I can't wait for the nice weather to hit (it has been freakishly rainy here this season and I feel like summer will never come) so I can start swimming. Perhaps then I can get under that 200 lb mark. Go****'s just so hard. It's the story of my life. Nothing is easy - that's for sure. I try not to dwell on it too much though. I am much happier than I was 120 lbs ago. I can't help but wish to lose the other 50, but heck, I'd be happy with another 25. We'll see. I think I'll make it eventually but my motivation is lacking right now and I think as long as that is the case, I'm not going to be seeing it. Thanks for checking on me. I know I don't share a whole lot anymore. Guess I feel like there isn't really anything to report though. Hopefully that will change soon! Dina

hey you! i've had the same thing happen several times - my bloodwork has been fine. they said they heard some irregularities in my heart, then i had an abnormal (at rest ekg), so they had me wear a heart monitor for 24 hours. i was scared to death because all of my family has horrible heart problems (my dad has congestive heart failure, my mom has heart disease, and my sister had a heart attack at 42 (she's never been overweight a day in her life and has never smoked - i've smoked since i was 16)). but, the monitor results all came back fine. i have no idea what's causing the dizziness... hope you (and i) can figure out what's going on... take care, kym

My blood pressure has always tended to be rather low, but since surgery, it is much lower and I tend to get the dizzy "about to pass out" feeling when I stand up, especially on an empty stomach. It helps when I drink more water--I guess it increases the volume of blood. I have never had the problem sitting, so I haven't worried about driving. Talk to your doc, Connie! Joy

By the way, Missy, I cannot allow you to refer to yourself as a Broad, dizzy or otherwise! There is nothing broad about you, not anymore -- dizzy Dame, maybe, but broad? No way, not you, you skinny thing you... have a good weekend! Are you feeling better, both physically and in terms of ending it with The Dude? Hugs, Reenie
