Two weeks ago I submitted an appeal to United Health Care for a Panni. There were pictures, letters from various medical personnel, my own appeal letter, chart notes, medical articles and studies showing that a panni does help back pain, etc. It was all in a binder with divider tabs and a table of contents. Today I got all the contents of that binder back in the mail (without the binder or dividers) with the following letter: Dear Member/Provider The attached dental molds, x-rays or photos were received in our office. We do not require these attachments to determine benefits; therefore we are returning these items to you. All document attachments submitted have been retained for review. Sincerely, UnitedHealthcare They sent back my entire appeal packet. Exactly what are they going to review? Of course they are closed for the weekend. Has anyone else had this happen? Connie

wow - the insurance people can be so crazy. i talked to mine the other day, and they told me that all of the information that they have supports that the hanging skin does NOT cause back pain. uh...how can it not?! where did you find the info. that it does? ...i suppose i have a bit of time to find info. on it, as they're also requiring that i be 18 months out. meh. the hoops that we must jump...

It sounds like they are insane. And thiefs to boot, I would call the police. Or better yet call on Monday and bribe them to approve you as they apparently have sticky fingers, or no office supplies and feel like they need to keep yours. Leslie

Boy - when I get to that point it makes me think it would be worth hand-delivering it with a videographer following along to get it all on video so they have no way to wiggle out. I have a feeling they are now going to send you a denial telling you that they don't have enough evidence to give you approval. Or they'll say they don't have any of the stuff they asked for initially. Of course, I'd have to have a doc that actually thought a panni was something I should get. Right now no one seems interested in helping me out there....
