on the 6th, i have to go in for yet another kidney stone removal! Its only the 7th time in 1 1/2 years. I can feel my kidney go into spasms. There are times i just crawl into a ball and cry. I hate telling the doctor it hurts cuz i fell like he is looking at me like i am a big baby. Its the same kidney that gives me trouble, and I know i am not crazy, cuz it hurts. I want the kidney just taken out, because the other one works just fine, but i don't think this doctor will just remove it. But it keeps building up with new stones all the time and i don't need this problem. Anyone feel like doing a kidney hiest on me in a seedy motel with a tub of ice?? LMAO

Hi, No kidney hiest here, but I have a question. Are you on protein only???? I'll tell you why I ask. A friend of mine started the all protein no carb diet and bamm!!! She got kidney stones. Even though she has now started on carbs again she is still suffering with trying to get rid of kidney stones. I am not sure but her doctor did tell her, her kidney stones where related to a all protein diet. Hope this helps. Rhen

Tanya, I strongly recommend not having your kidney removed. People with only one kidney have a shorter life span. Are you seeing a nephrologist about this or just a regular pcp? What are your stones made of? If they are calcium, you may not be able to take the calcium citrate. I'm not supposed to take additional calcium because it collects in my kidneys and forms stones. The trade off is that my bone density is poor. I have to make sure that I do lots of weight bearing exercise to build up my bone mass. Have you seen a dietician about this? There are lots of foods that can contribute to the problem, like soda. I really do feel for you. Stones are no fun. Connie

Tanya, I know you're in a lot of pain and if your doctor isn't listening to you, find one who will! This surgery has altered our insides tremendously. They just tell us about the intestinal replumbing but I didn't fully understand the aftershocks of how the surgery impacts every other thing going on in our bodies -- sort of like the food chain -- when one species gets wiped out, it affects every other species on the planet in one way or another. You took control of your health and your life when you decided to do this surgery. Now you need to do likewise about your kidney issues - our kidneys are under a lot of stress because of the amount of protein we're needing to ingest. I brought this up in one of our support groups some months ago because I was concerned about kidney problems. We couldn't address it or talk about it because we didn't know anything about it. Well, we need to learn. Take control, kiddo, just like you did a little over a year ago. Damn the doctors and full speed ahead! Take care, Reenie
