wierd sickness...
Today was crazy before I left the house, I forgot my protein drink so by hte time I got to school I was hungry, my son didn't eat 1/2 of his donut so I ate that@@ I KNOW!
ANyway I was sipping my drink like a good girl planning a really good day with the Kindergarten and all the sudden I was cold.
SO I put on my denim shirt...
STILL COLD
put on my coat
STILL COLD
got a cup of coffee
STILL COLD then started shivering and my teeth were chattering 9the class thought that was great LOL)
Anyway I just figured I got a wierd chill but by lunch 10:30 I had been shivering for over an hour and my back decided to spasm@@
SO I took my temp and it was 96.9???????
I went home and got into the bath tub shivering and finally got warm got out and my temp was 98.9???
Then I slept for about 4 hours.
My question is do you think this was dumping? I have eaten a donut before with no problem and that was all I ate????
I got really cold again just a bit ago and took a bath and my temp is 98.8!
what is up with that????
any ideas???
IF I call the doc their first and usually only suggestion is dumping your fault don't do it again! WHICH IS GREAT IF I THOUGHT THAT WAS IT ya know???
I would love any ideas ya'll have!

Ok...I'm not sure if it's dumping, but let me share a couple of things:
1) I'm ALWAYS cold. That has been a problem since I started losing.
2) If I don't eat the right amount of protein, I get the shakes and sometimes I get dizzy....especially in the morning. When we were in Atlanta last weekend, the hotel had Raisin Bran for breakfast, and everything else was junk (free continental breakfast). I had the cereal and then we went out. When I got out of the car, I felt dizzy and shaky...it was a good think I had a protein bar in my bag...I ate it and felt better almost immediately. The Raisin Bran probably had next to no protein, no doubt it contained sugar and it was the first thing that hit my system in the morning. I've always thought that dumping, plain and simple, was throwing up or pooping alot, but I could be wrong.
Not sure if this helps, but it may have something to do with the amount of protein you are taking in.
Take care and stay warm,
Joan
Nic,
You don't have to get sick for dumping. It sounds to me like it was
casued by the sugar you ate. Hypoglycemic effects us that way & actually is dumping you get sweats, feel weird, & feel like you might be
sick, but don't ever actually get sick. This will happen especially if you
dont usually eat sugar & you did not eat protein along with it. Hope
this helps.

Hi Nic......
I think that Marilyn may be on to something. If your blood sugar gets out of whack, it's not uncommon to get chills or dizziness or other symptoms. You not only ate a donut which is all fat and sugar which you are no longer used to, but you were low on protein. Your blood chemistry was certainly not going to be normal under those conditions. I have never had all of the symptoms of dumping syndrome, but I certainly have had adverse reactions to various combinations of food. The only advice I can give is to listen to what your body tells you and if the symptoms don't subside in a reasonable time, call your doctor. Take care and stay well.

SOUNDS LIKE DUMPING TO ME......those are some of the same symptoms that I have when I dump. I very seldom get the diarehha or vomit when I dump, although I would like to sometimes, but the chills or sweats, weakness, tired, all over lousy feeling those are what happen to me. If I went in the morning and didnt have my protein or eat a good protein source and then ate 1/2 a donut, even one bite of a donut, that would be enough to throw me into a good dumping spell. The one good thing about it is I bet you arent hungry for a donut now! When I self inflict those kinds of moments I wonder why in the world I did it to myself but it is a good reminder to me that I just cant eat the things I use to and that is a good thing!!!!

I've been on vacation and am catching up with all the postings. But I had to write to tell you I get those strange illness thingys too and I have to agree with everyone that I think it is another sign of dumping for those of us who dont' do the vomiting or diahrea stuff. I rarely have it happen but its usually becasue I've eaten something that is high in sugar when my tummy is empty. its rare casue I don't have the taste for the sugary things anymore. (I think they did a labodomy on me!) Its the old low blood sugar thing. 2 weeks ago when I was in the bahamas (wonderful vacation!!!!!) the temperatures where in the high 80's with a fantastic ocean breeze! but i'm geting off subject...anyways it was warm no reason for me to be cold and I was out on the beach soaking up the sun and was alittle bit late for my snack. I didn't have anything with me too. I find for me I need to do a healthy snack inbetween meals or I will get shakey. I thnk its cause I still can't eat that much and what i do eat processes out after a couple of hours so i usually have sometype of protein bar or raisins anything that is prepackaged that is good for me and will travel in a backpack or purse. So I started to get that shakey feeling nothing major and I ignored it cause it was the last day there to enjoy that sun. I so didn't want to come home! I almost waited tooooooo long cause by the time I got up to walk back to my room I was very shakey and alittle bit confused. Not a good thing! Fortunately our room was very close. I had gone to the beach alone, it was daytime and geesh I'm not a baby even though my mother still thinks I shouldn't cross the street alone! Once I got to my room I had one of my protein snacks but had to add some carbs to it too. My doctor had checked my blood sugar levels and they were alittle bit low not enough to be too concerned but he did tell me to add carbs with my protein snacks. it did take a while to get back to normal for the shakeys, confused and chills to be gone. I just took it easy for a few hours til I got back to normal and made double sure that I had those snacks with me. I also find that if I get excited or nervous that I seem to use up whatever keeps me normal quicker. Anyone else have that happen? good luck and god bless, Pam
hmmmm...ok...
so my next question is can you have different kinds of dumping then???
I have dumped before like this...
sweat, shakey, feel fevery aches, then BIG HUGE swings of vomitting or diarrehea.
SO if this was dumping can I dump differently depending on why I am dumping??
the only thing I really had was just shivering and a low body temperature then I hurt from the shivering, never felt sick or anything...odd...
THANK YOU FOR THE REPLIES!!!

Nic,
I find that I dump differently based on what I eat and how empty my stomach was when what I ate made me dump. But also the dumping is different now the closer I got to goal, comes quicker, is more intense, but doesnt last as long, usually. Remember dumping is as mcuh or more related to blood sugar and how fast the thing that you ate moves thru your pouch and enters your intestines as raw sugar, so obviously different things move thru the intestines at differeent rates as well and maybe that makes the difference of diarehha or vomiting and the symptoms etc. Best rule of thumb....make sure you get your protein and it is less likely to happen. Keep up the good work! janelle
