Da*n gall bladder!!!
I have not been posting lately just lurking as so much has been going on in the last month or so. But I feel the need to vent to the people who understand where I am comming from.
Some of you may remember that I have been training for the last 2-3 months for my first 10K road race the Boulder Boulder here in CO. Well we are only 3-weeks away from the race (it is on Memorial Day) and I am soooo excited.
Running the whole way in this race was my goal from the very begining of surgery. It was to be my "Wow!! Look at what a fit person I have become and look at what I can do now!! Look out world because here I come" moment.
Well thanks to my Da*n gall bladder that won't be happening, instead I get to have surgery!!! I am sooooo very disapointed. When I went to let my trainer and group know that I was not going to be able to run I actually broke out in tears I am so dissapointed. My trainer was very supportive saying things like "your health is more important than the race", There will always be another Boulder Boulder next year", or "there are other 10K races this year that you could do". She was being very sweet but she just did not get what this race meant to me, and my accomplishments this last year.
Anyway thanks for listening to my rant. I will let you know how surgery goes after it is done.

Leslie, Sorry for your disappointment. I know that no one will ever be able to console your hurt feelings enough and especially not anyone who never was obese, but they are right your health comes first. I have had some WOW moments and goals I have reached and some that have had to slip by, some would have been very trivial to other people but to me they were great and monumental. Know that the opportunity will come along again and we will all be in spirit on the side lines cheering you on as you finish victorious!!!! Best wishes for a speedy recovery! Keep us posted. Janelle
Leslie,
I really, really, really know what you are going through. About ten years ago, I trained for 10 months to hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back. I had paid for reservations to camp in the canyon, bought tons of equipment and ended up cancelling. My son had won a state science contest and was being awarded a prize on the weekend that I was supposed to hike te canyon. Of course I made the right choice to go to my son's ceremony, but it hurt.
Last October I was supposed to walk in the 3 day, 60 mile walk for a breast cancer cure. I had raised 2,000.00 in donations and had trained ever since surgery, but fell and tore my rotator cuff a few days before the walk. I might have been able to walk, but we were supposed to camp out every night and I wouldn't have been able to sleep on the ground. Hell, I was in so much pain I wouldn't have made it walking anyway. There's another walk next October, but it's not the same.
I feel so bad for you. What a bummer.

Oh, Leslie, I'm so sorry. Try to focus on the fact that you COULD run this race and fini**** even though you have a conflicting priority - focus on that achievement - the very fact that you are able to run it and would run it if possible, that's a phenomenal achievement. I remember the pain of my own gallbladder disease, and how very sick I was. It's nothing to mess around with so I'm glad you're getting this taken care of. Many WLS surgeons take the thing out when they go in there if there's an apparent problem. Why didn't your surgeon do that? Anyway, take comfort in knowing you have friends who care deeply about the disappointment you're feeling right now but that you WILL run that race next year! Or find another to run sooner than that. Take care, sweetie. Reenie
I'm so sorry Leslie. You will definitely be better off without the gb, but the timing is such a major disappointment!
You will be amazed at how much faster you will recover from this surgery than you did from the WLS because of your improved condition. Be sure to take in extra protein to help you heal faster.
Life is a journey, not a destination. You are taking an unexpected detour, but try to think of it as the "scenic route".

Hey Leslie;
I'm sorry that after all of that hard work, you'll miss your race. It's really a drag that a balky gall bladder is going to keep you from achieving all of your goal. I say all of your goal because you certainly have achieved a lot of that goal just by being healthy enough to think about entering and finishing a race like this. I'll bet that a year ago, this race was not on your "things to do list"??!!! I, for one am mighty proud of you for what you have accomplished. Hold your head up and get ready to kick some butt in next year's race!!!!
CHEERS!!
