for the first time in probly twenty (that's 20) years...now--for many of you that may not seem like such an accomplishment--some of you are much more fit than i--however-- while i wanted this surgery to regain my health and ability to play with my granddaughters--i never really thought about running again (broke my ankle 3 places 10 yrs ago-very careful about even walking!!!!) ---today on my walk; i broke into a short run--maybe only 50 feet --but it felt good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! had i run all of the way home ; i wouldn't have made it--i know that now--knew it then--but-damn it --i ran!!!!!!!!!!!! such a blessing this tool is!!!!!!!! look out world, here comes margo!!!!!!!!!!

well yes the sports bar and girdle would have helped me as well!! i have been listening to a coworker for weeks talk about her running-she is 23 and young and single and cute and a student full time as well as working ft at the bank-she has no esteem and thinks she is fat so she runs every day for 3 miles-anyhow--she is gonna run til she gets thin.... it was so uplifting of a feeling--tho your 100yards beat my 50 feet!!! that's great that you have a running partner- a willing dog!!!! i was alone!!!! we live in such a small community that i can walk in the street most of the time- at the end of my road is a road to the cemetary-hubby thinks it's about a 1/4 mile each way- i should dirve it to see--(can't find my pedometer!)--anyhow-the cemetary road is quite even and flat and runnable!!!!! us!!!!!!

Margo & Mike Congrats on the running. I was going to the gym faithfully for about a month (big deal for me) THEN I got into some financial trouble & could not afford it, so I haven't been in a month. Trying to get the funds to go back as I was really getting into the exercise thing & felt wonderful. You guys should be proud of yourselfs. Marilyn, the Bearlady

Way to go, Margo. It's crazy how fitness can sneak up on you. I dragged my nephew and my mom out for a walk yesterday afternoon and found the following things a) My 'normal' pace is uncomfortably fast both for my mom (50+) and my nephew (11) and b) Apparently the idea that a walk isn't a walk unless it's at least 2, 2 1/2 miles long is not necessarily the usual? They were begging off before we even hit a mile, and I was raring to go. Best of luck to ya, babe -- remember to change your running shoes periodically (they say 500 miles) so you protect your feet, ankles and shins. Jen

Great for you. If you are interested and able you can go to runningplanet.com and in the training section you can select the run/walk program. That is what I did and it gets you to the point where you can run 2 miles. You actually start off running a for only 30 seconds but it works. As I ran yesterday and took in the sights along the trail along the river, I check my time and had to laugh as I was almost done with my run and I had been running for 28 minutes and not that long ago 28 seconds was hard. Running is not for everybody, and even while I'm up to 15 miles a week, I still don't consider myself a runner. But I do it because I can, and it is a motivator for me now. If you enjoy it, just keep at it and you will improve. I learned a couple of months ago from a friend that runs marathons not to beat myself up if I have a rough day and running doesn't feel good. He actually says there are times when he take off and after a couple of blocks stops and heads back. Congrats on yet gaining back another part of your life.
