Clapping for me while I run
The other day as I ran along my neighborhood, I heard what I thought was clapping as I ran. Now I don't even want know what I look like when I'm out there chugging along at my just barely under 10 min. mile pace, but I'm sure it isn't pretty. So for the life of me I had to wonder why somebody would be clapping. Then I realized, the clapping was from my excess skin flopping up and down as I ran. I chose to make this a positive and pretended it was my body giving me an ovation for working out. Anyway, I usually run with UnderArmor compression shirts on under a shirt, but had decided to forgo it due to warmer weather. Lets just say the compression shirts are going to be a standard piece of equipment until I can have the excess removed.
And just a note to you ladies, you aren't the only ones who have breast issues. I could use the Manzier or the Bro right about now. Oh well, still look better then I did.
oh goodness-i can so relate! i have been getting better at my walking and found my slef almost breaking into a run the other nite---soon i will give in to the urge! but the thought of my own \\\"ovation\\\" isn\\\'t cute--you are so great to turn things into positives!!!!!!!!!!!!
i work for a bank and we are big into the american cancer society relay for life--yesterday they passed out our sponsor envelopes-i am pumped!!!!! our event is june 17th---i would never have thought of walking even once around the track in the past-now-whooo hoooo!!!!!
Hey Ken,
I have my own cheering section in step class. My arms just slap themselves silly. The first couple of times people next to me looked around for the source, but I think they're used to me now. You can imagine how loud it must be for people to hear it over the blasting stereo and shouting instructor.
Be sure that you document your flapping skin for insurance when you go for plastics.
Connie (who is part of your cheering section, right along with your skinnage)
I'm glad I got a chuckle out of most of you, that is the intent. Sometimes we get wrapped up in what we can't do or eat rather then looking at what we can do. I have become such an workout freak that I'm a junkie. My wife is out of town and leaving me to be single Dad. As my children are young, I can't leave them alone in the morning for my usual workout. So yesterday, I brought my workout stuff to work, changed in the bathroom and headed down to our local trail to get my run in. As I rambled along for three miles, I couldn't help but reflect on the progress that has come in such a short time. I'm running in our big local race here on the 24th in the 3 mile. I wanted to do the 5, but I won't be ready. I am however going to continue to train and run a 10K( 6.2 miles) this summer and have actully be asked to be a member of a relay team for the Hood to Coast Run. The Hood to Coast is in Oregon and you run from Mt.Hood to the coast, with each member required to run 3 legs. The legs vary in difficulty and distance from 4 to 9 miles. I'm not sure I'm up for it, but I thinking about it.
As many of you know, I was excepted into a training program for Law Enforcement. One of my fellow candidates had surgery two weeks after I did, and while he had less to lose he looks like he never had a weight problem. Anyway, we are in the process of First Aid training were learning about CPR. They discussed the placement of hands on the chest. The new version has you placing your hands between the nipple line. I leaned over to the other gentleman and told him if he ever has to do it on me, don't use nipples as a reference point or he'll be too low.
Connie, I have been keeping a log and have had my wife photo pictures with date stamps to document sores on my belly flap. I have my consult in July, the soonest I could get in. I hope to have it done this fall. And I will get a picture of a new me on the sight. I took pictures of me the day of surgery to my training yesterday and people freaked out. The other guy is actually featured in an ad for the hospital, so they had seen him, but as I said his is quite a dramatic because he had less to lose. Not taking anything away from him, but that when you become half the size you were it shows a bit more.
Hi Ken;
Great Post!! We really all need to concentrate on the positives and you seem to be doing a great job at that. I've got my walking speed up to practically a "jogging pace", so I'm now trying to get up the nerve to step it up to a run. You're my inspiration to give it a try! I could use my own "cheering section"!!
Mike
