Water Retention Question
Good morning! I am about to go off my diuretic pill for good and am concerned that I am going to gain a lot of water weight, at least initially. For those of you that were on blood pressure meds and then got off of them because of your weight loss, did you experience this and, if so, what did you do about it? Can anyone recommend a natural diuretic as an alternative? Thanks, all. Have a great day! Reenie
Hi Reenie,
I came off my two BP meds in September, one of them was a diuretic, and I think I gained between 5 and 7 pounds fairly quickly. I really didn't feel 'bloated' and it made no difference in my appearance or the fit of my clothing. If you keep pushing the liquids through your system, it all balances out in the end. (Or so Dr Mike keeps telling me, tho I am convinced it's that dang water weight that is the difference between my having lost 96 pounds and 102 pounds.) LOL. Try not to get too uptight about the numbers on the scale.
Hugs,
Mo
Reenie,
Because I drink more coffee than water, inmost cases i retain lots of
water in my system. I still take diuretics every couple of weeks. Just
not everyday like I use to. I gain anywhere to 3 to 5 lbs of water weight.
You probably will too. But, if you keep up with tha****er drinking, you
might not. I just can't give up the coffee.

your body will want to hold on the water. So to combat this before you go off of the medication lke two days star****er loading meaning drink double the amount you normally drink and keep this up at least 5 days after you go off of the medication. I was taking a diuretic for another reason than BP, but I did the water loading like my m.d. told me and it seemed to work.
