My 1st year annv is 23 March. Weight loss has been slow. This past week , a CT SCAN showed a small hernia in my stomach wall. This is becomming quite a problem becaue I am getting pain after I eat or I have no appetite. Why is is the happening? I see the surgeon on the 24th.

I have a small hernia as well, I noted it when I was doing incline situps. Mine is not causing pain and I having no appetite issues. I waiting for a date to see the PS for a Tummy Tuck. Should insurance pay for the TT, then they will repair my hernia at the same time. If insurance doesn pay, then I'll have the repair done late this spring.

I have a large ventral hernia right above the incision...it sticks out like a small football if I pu**** out. I am approved for a hernia repair and abdominoplasty, but in pre-op testing they found something wrong with my heart. Now on the anniversary of my WLS tomorrow I will be having an Angiogram instead. i have a pretty good sized one at my incision and inside(ish) my belly button... it makes my tummy look a lot bigger than it is. it makes noise after i've eaten (a kind of 'clicking noise') especially if i put any pressure on it. it does hurt and it's making me quite sad. the doc said that i have to 'baby it' for another 5 months and then they will have to repair it... it is the hope that i can have tt at the same time. but i'm freaking out a bit because i'm not thin enough for the tt yet. i weigh 220 now. i was wondering how thin you have to be before they'll even consider it. anyway, good luck. deb open RNY 3/5/04 -147

Today is my 1 year anniversary and I also have an incisional hernia re****ing from my bypass surgery. I am set to have surgery on April 4th to have it repaired. I had A LOT of complications with my bypass so needless to say I am a bit nervous about this upcoming surgery. My surgeon says that the chances of me having the same complications are greatly reduced due to my 150lb. weight loss, but I am still a little worried. Doc says I will probably be in the hospital about 2 or 3 days and will be out of work for about 2 weeks. I was off work for 6 months with my bypass and my incision took almost 9 months to completely heal. I was left with a nasty scar so the doc is going to remove that during the hernia surgery. I hope everything goes well. Take Care, Jimmy

Hi Sharon, One of the reasons the HMO authorized my WLS so fast, was I was to have a hernia repair at the same time. the Hernia Repair was on my consent for surgery, as well as GB removal. The Hernia was NOT repaired- and I have spent the last year aggreviated about it - because my medical insurance stopped on april 1 2004, just about a week after WLS, and I cannot find an insurance to cover me, their reasoning is One needs to be at least 2 years post op with NO complications, in order to get personal medical insurance. It is my opinion my surgeon owes me a hernia repair on her dime ( lets see how well that balloon goes over when I tell her that on my 1 year post office visit on march 24th ) It looks like i have a huge NOSE sticking out despite what I wear, It is getting larger and is a lot more painful. Hey Sharon! We share the same anniversary. I have had trouble with hernias also. The first was repaired in August. I found a second hernia (after a hospitalization in October for abdominal pain that they could never find the cause) in November....I have yet to have this one repaired. It's rather large and makes me look like I'm about six months pregnant. I'm fighting for approval for abdominoplasty with hernia repair at the moment and go for my third consultation with a ps for this on Thursday (funny, 24th too...maybe we'll be having hernia repair surgery on the same day well??). Know that you're not alone in this....I'm not sure why some patient's have such an issue with this, but some of us do...there is a lady in my support group that is on her fifth repair and a gentleman has had several repairs as well. Good Luck Whitney
