I just started them also. It is amazing how much energy I have the day after I take one! Yes it is common. Actually my mom and daughter have to take them and they have not had WLS, so I had tried to start them right after surgery, but my doctor wanted to establish whether I really needed them or not. At least they are easy and cheap. My DH gives me mine. Joy

I take a B-12 shot once a month. This is required by my doctor. When the blood work is done, the B-12 levals are checked as well.

Hi Diane! I, too, started on B-12 injections in January because even though I used sublingual B-12 *daily*, I still felt very tired. I feel so much better now and it's one less pill I have to remember. HTH, and have a good day! -Marcie 281/176/150 BMI: 49.8/31.2

Diane, It is very common among gastric bypass patients to have low B-12 levels. The part of the small intestines that is bypassed is the part of you that absorbs B-12. Therefore you have to do something to supplement that. I take what is called a sublingual B-12 tablet. With this B-12 is absorbed under the tongue. I only have to take it every other day. Nick

Very common, and can be scary if not addressed, easy fix and immediate relief. My wife (2/18/04) takes B12, and B1(Thiamin) injections. Also get a Dexiscan (bone density) test yearly, we do not absorb calcium well either.

I just found out I have to do the shots too. My level was 208. The doctor said 243-860 was normal range. Good Luck! Anne
