Hi, all! I went to the bariatric center on Thursday and the nurse practioner told me that I have to slow my weight loss down. WHAT? I've never heard those words in my life! I'm 10 months out and have lost 145 pounds. I still have 20 pounds to go to get to my surgeon's goal weight, but the nurse said that we lose for 15-18 months and that I shouldn't lose any more than 2.5 pounds a month from now on. The nutritionalist said that I need to add salad dressing, butter, cream cheese, milk, etc. to slow things down. I understand what they are saying, but it goes against everything I've ever been taught about dieting. CRAZY! I'm a little stunned, but I'll be a good patient and do it, but it's under duress. Anyone else been told this and still feel they'll lose down to their goal weight? I'm a little scared that things will come to a screeching halt. It's bad enough to plateau and have no control over it, but to actually but the brakes on on purpose...UGH! Smiles, CP 309/164/144 3/11/04

Cee Cee I have never heard of that before you. I know that we eventually stop losing on our own as the body catches up & just quits losing. I would go lightly at first & see how it goes. Don't go crazy, just try a l little at a time & see what happens. You have done fantastic & should level off on your own. Don't go back to bad habits if you can help it. that will kill what you have accomplished quicker than anything. You should be feeling real good about where you are at this point. & can probably eat a little more anyway. I no I can being 11 months out. So Hang in there & keep doing what got you here & you will natually stop losing. You don't want to gain it back. Marilyn, the Bearlady

My surgeon told me the exact same thinig. I will be 10 months out on the 24th of this month and have lost about 270 pounds. I am down to 230 and I am 6'1". Surgeon s ays after tummy tuck would prob lose another 20 lbs of skin weight so he wants me to almost stop losing weight as he says 200 would be a good weight for me and that is less than I wanted at 240 initially. Listen to your surgeon and nutritionist. They want me to eat more also, funny been heavy all my life and now told that I have to stop losing weight. Congrats on your success and good luck going forward.
