Ventral Hernia 9 months post op

I just found out that I have a ventral hernia that needs to be repaired...so more surgery is in the works...not immediate, as there is no perforation or danger....but the silver lining here is that a tummy tuck works perfectly into the mix....my poor abdominal walls are very thin and weak...I guess that is why I have had so many vaginal prolapses too...so I am hoping my insurance will cover both procedures. Just wondered if anyone else has something similar at 9 months post op? I copied in my post to the over 50 forum for information too. Sally Ventral Hernia and TT Info Original Post by Tea Lady at 8:15 AM PST on 12/29/2004 Libertyville, IL - RNY (03/16/2004) Boy, I really didn't expect to be in the insurance approval mode again--but here I am...trying to see if my insurance company, Great West will approve a TT along with my Ventral Hernia repair. My surgeon works closely with a plastic surgeon...they assist each other and my weak abdominal walls will benefit by both procedures...so I am hoping that if not all of the 2 procedures are covered, that any out of pocket expense is not too huge. I welcome all suggestions, thoughts, information and facts about the surgeries, the insurance company, and or anything else. Thanks. Sally

So sorry that you are having problems, Sally. But the bright side is that even if the insurance does not cover the TT surgery part, it should cover the hospitalization and anesthesia and all peripheral charges as part of the hernia repair. I hope this goes well and fixes everything that is remaining to bother you! Joy

Hi Joy-- Yes, that is what I thought too...even if I have to pay out of pocket for the TT, the anesthesia, room charges and alot of other things should be covered. So it was meant to be....cause I wouldn't have had a TT otherwise I don't think. That is my only area with flab too...the middle area....be nice to say bye-bye to it forever. Sally

So sorry to hear this. I remember your hospital experience wasn't of the best. Will you be able to change hospitals or otherwise get them to treat you better? Gano

Well my bad experience was because of my roommate and overcrowding....I have had other better experiences there. But, the hernia repair and TT may be done in a different facility. How have you been? Sally

I have heard with a hernia... sometimes insurances will completely pay for the hernia procedure (operation, going under, hospital stay, surgeon's fee etc) and the only cost to the patient would be the TT and that would just be the cost of the procedure to do the TT and plastic surgeon's fee. I'm not sure if all insurances will be willing to do this.
