O.K. guys here goes, I knew something was wrong from the beginning and my surgeon discounted my intuition. As soon as I was able to eat solid food, I was hungry all the time, I stopped because I wanted to follow the rules and just thought that it was head hunger. At 2 months out, I complained of abdominal pain and had a CT scan, radiologist said, your old stomach is full of the liquid that we had you drink. I brought this info to Surgeon and she said :oh it just backed up from the other end, You don't have a fistula and you are worrying yourself too much maybe you should go and see a psychologist". So I took her at her word, after all she is the MD not I. I continued to truck on still being hungry and on very few occasions, I have tested and been able to eat ALOT of food. When I started to have severe pain in my chest I went back and she sent me for a endoscope, results were that I have a ulcer right at surgery site and the acid from my old stomach keep splashing on the ulcer site. YES, I DO HAVE A FISTULA.... In the meantime, I have developed a hernia, and a HIDA SCAN showed that my gall bladder function is extremly low. So in 10 days, I go back to surgery to have fistula fixed, gall bladder removed, hernia repaired & the part of my intestine that has the ulcer will be removed and they are going to re-do the connection. So 2 days short of 9 months out, I am going back under the knife. My weight loss has been slow and now I know why. Heck, I hav'ent lost anything for 3 months now and if I don'****ch it very carefully I gain weight. I have lost 70 pounds that I am thankful for: however, without this set back it would have been more and with less hunger & suffering on my part. So now the honeymoon period is well over and it was wasted. I don't feel like I will ever get down to goal. I am soooooooo depressed and anxious, looks like a couch Christmas for me Renee

Oh Renee, I'm so sorry about all of this. All things considered, I think that a 70 pound loss is outstanding. I really admire you for losing that much in spite of the fistula and your hunger. I don't think that the honeymoon period is over at 6 months. Things slow down, but the weight loss doesn't stop. Things should really pick up for you once you get put back together. Keep your spirits up, it's got to get better after this. Will someone let us know how you are doing after surgery? If you send me the hospital name and number, I'll call and check up on you. Hugs, Connie

Renee - I'm so sorry to hear about your problems, but maybe there is a silver lining here. Perhaps your honeymoon period is just starting again. Maybe not quite as good as the original should have been, but the reason we have a honeymoon period is because the new stomach is healing and can't hold much food etc. Your stomach area will obviously be healing after this and will be a little more sensitive to eating. Plus, now you won't have the hunger to deal with like before. You should be able to start dropping the weight again and probably even faster than before. So take heart, things may go much better now. Wishing you the very best and hope everything goes well. Gail

Renee, you are very courageous and have True Grit. I am so angry right now in reading about how your surgeon dismissed your concerns. Get tough with this "professional" -- honestly, I am beginning to think that the surgeons who specialize in WLS really take on an overly inflated God complex. They need to be reminded that, YES, we have been given our lives back, we are living differently, but the surgery -- their contribution to our success -- was only a jump start. Our success is really a result of the very, very hard work we have all done and continue to do daily. I really am feeling very angry right now so I better not go on. I will hold you in my prayers every day and I agree with the other posts that this may well be a fresh start for you. As we all slow down in our weight loss, you will just begin to rev up! I can't wait to read your posts of remarkablee weight loss beginning in just a few short weeks. In the meantime, take control of your health, your well-being and your life -- let your surgeon know how upset you are and insist that from now on she not only listen to you and respects your concerns, but she allows you to be a partner in your own healthcare. God bless, Renee, we're all here for you. Thanks, Connie, for offering to check up on Renee for us by calling the hospital. Take care, sweetie. Maureen

Hi Renee, I am sorry to hear about your problems and I can completely sympathize with you. At about 4 1/2 months I started having serious problems with pain and eating. I really thought it was something I was doing wrong so I struggled with the pain until it was almost unbearable. I have an ulcer and a fistula and esphageal stricture. I have been scoped and dilated twice so far and am scheduled again for next week. The next stage will be to go back into surgery for a revision. I have to admit that when I am not throwing up or in pain I do feel great, but my weight loss has been minimal the last 2 1/2 months. I am struggling to reach the elusive 90 pound mark and still have another 50 or so to reach my goal. Hang in there, it will all work out. I am sorry your doctors didn't pay more attention to you from the outset and let it go on so long. Hugs, Mo

Renee - I do believe I remember you speaking about this in the past and am SO happy you were able to find out this was the problem. I'm just peeved at your doc for blowing you off! Time to grow some lungs and use them on this doc it sounds! I'm so sorry you have to go through another surgery, but like the others, I am excited for you in that you will finally have the proper tool to lose the weight, and that once it's working properly that you will have the honeymoon period you felt was gone. I definitely believe you will experience that honeymoon phase that you were never able to experience before. Good going - I am proud of you for working so hard to get those 70 lbs off in spite of the fistula! Dina

Wow!! Have you been having a time of it or what!! I am sorry to hear about the set back but everything will work out in the end and you will begin to see the weight drop off. I would however think about switching to another Bariatric Surgeon for the rest of the durration. This one has already proved that they dont listen to you. Good luck with the surgery. As soon as you can check back in with us so we know how you are doing. Very impressed by the 70lb loss even with everything that had been going on. Leslie

So sorry to hear you have had such problems. I hope you get a brand new honeymoon period for Christmas! Wouldn't that be nice? I can't see why it couldn't work that way, since your system has never been right! Mostly I hope that this surgery goes well and that you make a quick and complete recovery and that you get a huge boost to your weight loss. You keep hanging tough! Joy
