Always a bridesmaid...

Actually, I've never been a bridesmaid before, but my best friend since we were 12 is getting married in June. She called me today to make plans to go bridesmaid dress shopping next Sunday. I am so thankful to have had surgery. I know that I am still going to have to order my dress in a plus size because I'm bigger up top than bottom and they're going to have to do all kinds of alteration magic -- but how lucky am I that they won't have to "special order" it. The rest of the bridal party is lifelong skinny people, most of them petite to boot, so I will still be the biggest woman in these wedding pictures, but I don't care. I'm not perfect but I am getting closer to normal size every day. If she had gotten married last year, I might have told her I didn't want to be in the bridal party for fear of ruining her pictures. I am so glad that I can participate now, without reservations or guilt. I think I'm going to look great, regardless of how horrible the color she picks turns out to be! Jen

Remind them they will probably need to alter it again before the wedding. You are not finished loosing weight yet.

Jen, That's so exciting. You can wear the same ugly dress that everyone else does. lol When one of my sisters got married, she wanted a very formal black and white theme. I backed out of being the maid of honor because they didn't have any type of black and white dress that would fit me and I didn't want to ruin the look of the wedding party with wearing a different dress from the other women. When my other sister got married, she insisted that I be in the wedding, but in order for that to happen, I had to go first and find a dress that would fit me and then everyone else bought the same. The only thing I could find was this big ol' purple Barney looking dress. We looked like a bunch of grapes standing up there at the alter. Have a wonderful time with this. You'll be beautiful, but you already are. Connie

Isnt it wonderful to not feel that panic inside when it comes to things like this? Just going into a store and not feeling sick and panicky that I wont find ANYTHING that I could fit into. MAN I remember those days. That use to be horrible! Now I can walk into a store and know that I am bound to find something! Its wonderful. Hope you have a great time! Elizabeth M

I can so relate to not wanting to do things because of weight. I have lived the vast portion of my life sitting on the sidelines because of it. How wonderful that you will get to participate in the wedding now! BTW - I can't see how you will have to shop in the pluz size dept by June. You are already out of plus sizes girl!!! Dina

Congratulations! My advice: Go ahead and pick the dresses but find out the latest possible date that you can get fitted to order yours. You may be the SMALLEST bridesmaid by June! Look where the last 6 months have brought you! Joy

Hi Jen- When I got married in 1999- One of my friends (and a bridesmaid) Kelly just had her WLS 2 mos before we ordered the dresses. When she went for her measurements, I had to ask the bridal shop to order a size 16 dress instead of the 26 she was in at the time. They wouldnt believe that she would lose all that weight in the 6 mos it took to get the dress and I had to sign all these waviers as a bride knowing that I was ordering the wrong size for her measurements. When the dress came in, they had to alter it to make it a size 12!!!!!!!!! They couldnt believe it! Wait until they have to cut YARDS and YARDS of fabric off your dress. It will make you feel like a zillion bucks! Hugs- Janine
