How did everyone do today?
Well, I just finished loading the dishwasher for the last time and all the food is put away.....and well, while it wasn't the easiest, I am very happy with how I did today. I ate about 2 oz of turkey, a very small spoon of mashed potatoes, small spoon of dressing and gravy. 3 spoons of fruit salad, 3 bites of pumpkin pie with whipped cream (oh so delicious!!) went back a few hours later for another spoon of mashed potatoes, dressing and gravy, and that was it! I think not too bad! Oh yeah and 1/2 of a roll with butter and strawberry all fruit (ok, not too good!) Oh well, start over tomorrow. How about you?
Cindy,
I did pretty well today. A couple of ounces of turkey, a couple of teaspoons of mashed potatoes, some green beans, some broccoli, and a tablespoon of dressing. No gravy on anything and no bread.
For dessert, I had a bite of my 2 year old niece's pumpkin pie. I think I may have found the secret to portion control. Eat off of a two year old's plate. I was going to share the pie with her, but after I ate one bite I gave the fork to her. She mangled and mushed and I suddenly wasn't in the mood for pumpkin pie.

For me it was Good News and Bad News.
Bad news: Too much sugar, too much fat, too many carbs.
I didn't measure my portions.
My wife made apple pie and pumpkin pie and I ate both!
Good news: I made a plan and stuck to it... I planned to have a little bit of everything and that's what I did.
I actually left the table without feeling bloated or guilty!
My portions were smaller than those of my tiny 85 year old Mother in Law.
Even my 2 pieces of pie combined were smaller than a "Normal Person's" slice. All in all I'm pretty satisfied as long as I do things like this only occasionaly. I must admit, that the "Big Pouch Between My Ears" wanted more, but I managed to ignore him this time!!

I did ok. It is funny, 8 months down and although my mind tells me I want the food, when I start to eat it, my stomach says no. So at lunch I stopped early after taking a tablespoon of most of the dishes, I still left more than 1/2 on my plate. Then last night, I had some more grren beans, mac and cheese, turkey and dressing. Then I found the fruit salad. That was the best tasting of anything. After lunch my neice (who is 2) wanted a slice of coconut cake. They gave her the top 2 layers and I got the bottom layer. So although I did not stay completely away from sugar...I did not taste all the desserts.
Hi all. Very interesting Thanksgiving. I did all the cooking and must say it turned out very well. I was fine for most of the meal...actually, like Martha, I realized early in the day that I just don't enjoy food the way I used to...halfway through lunch, I just stopped eating, just didn't feel very good, not sick exactly, just not good. For dinner (my 11 year old son made us all dress up...just the 4 of us, and he lit the candles and made the meal very nice for us!)...I had spoonfuls of everything, my stuffing is killer (old family recipe), mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, celery hearts with cream cheese, and of course the turkey and gravy...just a bit of all of it and felt fine. Then I had a sliver of pumpkin pie with a dollup of whipped cream. That did it. Boy, did I feel sick! I thought it was because I overate but I realized today (after having another sliver) that is was the pie. I DUMPED! BIG TIME! And I am SO HAPPY I DID! I got so sick, I am sure I will NEVER eat pumpkin pie again, one of my favorite all time foods! Any other dumping stories??? Maureen
Considering how much I ate in the past on Thanksgiving Day and days following with leftovers, I did very well. I was out shopping most of the day, so all I had was a couple of tablespoons of stuffing. It is the one thing I love most about Thanksgiving (and it really didn't taste that good).

As I reflect today back on the last two days with so much food availbale and leftovers I am very happy with how I chose the best things for me over the things my mind told me I wanted. I planned ahead to succeed and that was a life saver for me. My hardest thing to avoid was a killer cheese ball that my sister makes!! I had planned to allow myself one bite of all the things I like about Thanksgivng dinner, and some things didnt even appeal to me anymore so I didnt try them and I didnt miss them. I had made a Pumpkin Cream Roll, sugar free. It was excellent. I got it off Splenda website, it is well worth making. I must admit it was so nice not feeling like a blimp who just wanted to nap all afternoon after the meal was over. I had lots of energy and enjoyed the company of my family! We have so much to be thankful for!
