What does it feel like to get your food stuck?
I don't know if that is what happened to me or not really, so I am curious if you can relate how it feels for you? I had a really rough day yesterday and I suspect in retrospect that it might have been my multi-vitamin getting stuck but I'm not sure.
I took my vitamins with a low carb yogurt smoothie, then I had 1/2 an apple. Well, it was just a little too much for me, and I started to feel like I was going to dump. My heart started racing a bit and then I just got all knotted up in my stomach. Well, eventually I was in terrible pain and could barely catch my breath. It was intense....either as intense or more intense than a gallbladder attack. I started sweating profusely and could get a comfortable spot no matter what I did. It lasted in intensity for about 5-10 minutes then subsided. Then it started back up for less than 5 minutes a little bit after the first. That was it and I was all done for the day. I haven't had any problems since. But it was a bit scarey. I started wondering if eating just a little too much apple after having the smoothie kind of lubed things up and made me try to pass my vitamins before they were dissolved enough. I can't imagine what else it might have been.
I've never had much of a problem like this, so I am really curious to know what everyone else has felt regarding this.
Dina
Hi Dina,
It sure sounds like what I felt like when I accidently got a hold of too much sugar. I thought I was drinking a low sugar protein shake only to later find out it had 37 grams of sugar. I was in Cost Plus World Market at the time. I laid on a sofa that was near an aisle and the sales people didn't know what to make of me. I was moaning and talking to people at the same time. "ohhhhhhhhhh..., that's a beautiful candle you've got there." "Ohhhhhhh gawd...... glasses are towards the back of the store. There's a sale on the cobalt blue ones. Agggghhhhh"
I'm wondering if there was too much sugar in the smoothie and apple combined.
I'm glad you're feeling better.

Dina, I've had blockages a few times and what you describe is exactly what happened for me. The pain is incredible, every bit as bad as a gallbladder attack...I even wondered if this was what having a heart attack feels like. The 3-4 times it has happened to me (always on meat), I walked, walked, walked, until the pain subsided. Two of the 4 times, everything backed up and I had to vomit. The other 2 times, the stuff eventually passed through. Haven't had an episode in several weeks, though. Are you cutting the skin off your apple before you eat it? If not, the skin can easily muck up the works. I hope you're feeling better. Take care, my friend. Maureen
Thanks for the info Maureen - I definitely feel that has to have been it. I don't typically peel my apples, but do on occasion. I don't think that was it though - I really think it was the vitamins. I have a suspicion that I have and always have had a larger stoma than most, so I have never had problems right out of the gate with the stuff getting stuck. I think I just found out how big it is though.

Dina,
If it should happen again, & I hope it doesn't I've been told to try & drink
something warm to loosen the stuck item. It helps better than anything
to desolve whatever is stuck. It still sound like dumping to me. Some
times our body just decides that what your eating doesn't want to stay
down, even if you haven't had the problem before. What kind of vitamins
do you take, I take chewables so they aren't a probelm.

The other day I actually DRANK something and I guess I took a gulp that was too big PLUS some air got down too... and OMG
IT HURT SOOO BAD!!! I was shocked and it lasted about 15 minutes!!! You would figure since it was liquid that it would've gone away in a minute but it didnt'. It sounds like it got stuck or was too much at once or something of that nature. Best Wishes
