Mine is really low too. I can't find any drink that doesn't make me The dr. is talking about backing off part of my bypass because I am not absorbing protein. I don't want any part of another surgery. Good luck sorry I can't help. Renee'

Same here with the yucky protein drinks. I just got Whey Gourmet, it's called Radical Raspberry and I like it alot!!! I mix it with 7-8oz of Fat Free Carb Countdown Milk and it's 30g of protein. My doctor says we should get atleast 60-80 grams per day. Some days I do it, but other days I know I could do better. Good Luck Renee' and I hope you wont have to go through surgery again. BTW in case you want to give it a try, I got the protein drink at Vitamin World. Carol 386/274/180

I don't think anyone really knows for sure what that number should be, BUT I was told by the nutrionist that a normal sized woman without surgery needs 50 grams a day. With that said, she would like to double that because of the malaborption. Its impossible to eat that much with RNY, so I supplement with 2-3 protein shakes a day. I average 90 grams and my 6 month labs came back fine. Good luck, Wendy 275/185/150

I cannot tolerate the protein drinks so I am doing meat and cheese and about 60 proteins per day. My blood test are fine too.

Sharon, My doc said the same thing as Wendy. Normal non-ops need 50 grams per day. We need at least twice that to compensate for our surgery. I average between 90 and 110 deppending on what I eat during the day. I get at least 60 just from my shakes. Do you like dreamsicles? Or Frappuccino's? Eggnog?? What was your favorite milkshake flavor pre-op? Protein shakes can be made to taste just about any way you want. I've done lots of experimentation and have found several recipes that I like. I have a bunch of recipes to share if you're interested. Protein shakes do make the difference on bad protein labs!!! Been there DONE THAT!!! UNJURY is my protein of choice...I mix it up the day before and then just have to pour and drink. I found I'm much more compliant if it's cold and waiting for me. Rather than me having to wait on it. Rubbermaid has some great containers that are shakeable and you can mix two shakes at one time. Then you can pour and go. Here's my favorite (makes two shakes) 2 scoops Vanilla unjury or syntrax Matrix 5.0 Vanilla 1 scoop unflavored unjury or ON AnyWhey 1 tsp Crystal lite Orange Sunrise or Sugar Free Tang 10 ounces water 10 ounces of OJ Put in powdered ingredients first - then add water. Shake well. Then add OJ. Shake again. Refrigerate for several hours. Shake again before drinking. Hope this helps!! Happy thoughts, Va 5' 3.5" 232/143/13? -89 pounds -78 inches

I was under the impretion that you should not mix up your protein drinks ahead of time because they immediately start breaking down. That you should drink within 15 minutes of making. I would check into this if I were you. I have a slim fast shaker that I use. I just drink Unjury chocolate. Sometime vanilla but mostly chocolate. Nicole

Nicole, I have done my research. Ask Jerome at unjury.com or Susan Maria at bariatriceating.com. Today's proteins are made under such strict guidelines that unless you heat them above 130 degrees they do NOT break down. You can even freeze them and still have full potency. ON AnyWhey can be used for any purpose - cooking, baking, hot coffee etc.... I would not jeopardize my health for convenience. Va

I have a question. Is the OJ that you're referring to orange juice, because 8 oz of oranr juice has like 28 grams of sugar in it. Just curious. Nick

Yep...it's orange juice. The kind I use has 23 grams of natural sugar not refined. I can do natural sugar...forget refined!!! and sugar alcohols are the worst!!! Va
