Hair Loss Anyone?
Hello all you fellow Marchers! Well my question & concerns are about our hair loss. Mine started around the 4th month mark. I was prepared and new that there was a very good chance that it could happen. My hair was already thin on top. While I do not have any bald spots you can see the scalp pretty good. Yes the loss has slowed to the regular amounts that everyone loses but geesh I don't want to lose anymore! I'm using a medical shampoo, not trying to style it with harsh brushes, combs, but with the job i have i'm expected to be polished. This week I'm researching new hair styles to compliment my new face & figure and kinda try ta hide the very thinning hair. I'm in my early 50's but still had that dream of my someday returning to that younger age beautiful long hair look. Well I'll take this loss along with that weigh loss with a smile! Anyone else have this issue?
My hair has thinned dramatically, also starting about the 3rd to 4th month. I ended up cutting about a foot off the length to lessen the stress on it, and have managed to keep it about shoulder length since. It seems to go in cycles with the loss, but I am not losing as much as I had been, so maybe it's back to 'normal' now. I am also in my 50's and not ready for a really 'short' hair style just yet.
I've switched my shampoo to the Fructis stuff (in the green bottle). It's relatively inexpensive and seems to help. My doctor and nutritionist have stressed making sure I get my protein to help with the hair.
Good luck.
Hugs, Mo
Starting at about month three, my hair started coming out by the fistful. My ex-botfriend was not the neatest housekeeper and his bathroom was just covered with my hair. It was all over the floor, sink, toilet, tub. I finally cleaned his bathroom because it was just too depressing to look at all my hair everywhere, but on my head. I used tons of volumizing products and got a shorter, layered cut that helped hide my loss. I just kept styling as normal because I figured that if it was going to fall out, there wasn't much I could do to prevent it. Over the last month, I've noticed less and less hair in the bottom of the tub and on my pillow. For the last week, there have only been a few hairs on the bottom of the tub every morning. Yippee!

Hair loss....Oh boy! Major issue for me. My hair started to fall out around my 3rd month post op and it has finally stopped. Well, not stopped but its back to the normal few strands here and there. I always had the thickest and fullest hair, NOT anymore. I lost more than half of what I had. Before surgery I couldn't even get a pony tail wrapped around my hair more than twice, now I can get one wrapped around 4 or more times. When it was falling out it was very depressing for me. I cried about it all the time. Now that its finally stopped I'm a little bit better. I HATE more than anything having thin hair, but I'm hopefull that it will grow back. I've had thick hair all my life, so I'm thinking that its bound to come back. Maybe not as much but hopefully alot better than it is now....

I strongly believe that hair loss is due to your protein intake. It seems like when I'm not getting enought protein in my diet I notice more hair falling out. I have really stuggled with getting 60-80 gms of protein a day. I have to make sure that everything I eat has a large amount of protein in it or I'll be bald. Hate to lose all this weight and start looking good then end up bald.
Hang in there,
Kathy
YEP! Hair loss here still. I HATE it. I am now taking biotin and zinc and that seems to be helping a little bit but its still to early to tell. I know that when I dont get in my protein supplement my hair comes out more...so i try to get in my protein drinks. I think if I was more consistent about those supplements I wouldnt have as much of a problem. darn that protein! Hang in there it will stop sooner or later!
and it grows back they all say which is definitely a plus!

I never really saw any hair falling out, and I have thin fine hair anyway, but it definitely is thinner. I read an article that says when the body is compromised by losing a lot of weight that it cuts back on "regrowth" and although we normally lose hair all the time, it is replentished so fast we don't notice...but with WLS, it doesn't do that and thus I think that is why I am much much thinner.
Anyway,,,,I got my hair cut very very short this summer and went even blonder than usual (I am dark blonde now) and love it! I call it my short sexy Sharon Stone haircut and I don't think short hair needs to be construed as old or unattractive at all. In fact older women with long hair is not always a good look...especially if thinning...so I am very happy I did it.
By the way, I am 63 and we have a good group on the Over 50 forum if you want to stop by...love to have you!
