The Oprah show regarding WLS and Cross Addictions is being re-broadcast today with Carney Wilson and others. If you missed it the first time it ran, you won't want to miss it. Set your recorders! Also, check the Message Board on her website after the show and read the posts. It will amaze you and break your heart. According to the show, 30% of all WLSers cross addict, including me. This is very important. Let me know what you think after you see the show. Hugs, Karen

Thanks for this, Karen. Hopefully, my husband will get home in time to record this for me. I have such a better understanding of what you've been going through and while I am saddened for your struggles, I am so incredibly damned proud of you for your courage and for sharing this with us. Please keep letting us know how you're doing. Your strength is contageous - take care. M.

Thanks, Reenie! It is support from people like you that keep me sober! And I am! I attend at least five, if not six meetings a week and have met 3 others who have had WLS and ended up with either alcoholism or drug addiction or both! You have to be careful who you tell because there is still a stigma when people hear "alcoholism" or "drug addiction", similar to seeing a therapist in the 1960's-you were considered crazy and a lepper if you got mental help, like my mom did. I knew I could share with you guys and you would not only support me but not hold it against me. I still can't believe I ended up alcoholic....but it is what it is and I am surrendering to the disease. And I am learning that I CAN have fun and not drink ! Thanks again for your kind words! Smiling soberly, Karen

Thanks for the info Karen; I have to work this afternoon, but I've set things up to record the program. You should be proud of what you've accomplished. I'm glad that you had the strength to share your problems with us so that we all can learn from you. You are an ispiration.....Thank you. Mike

Thanks so much for your kind words and support, Mike. I feel like I need to share so others can perhaps be spared what I went through. I have already gotten several e-mails from people on these boards who are going through the same thing so I know it makes a difference when I share. If you look at the Addictions Forum, you will see a few people posting and 80-90+ people reading each post. That speaks volumes to me. I haven't posted to that board yet; I need to set up a pseudo profile before I post. I'm not sure I am ready for all my locals in Virginia to know it is me yet. That way, I can still post and protect myself, while hopefully helping others. Thanks again, Karen

Did anyone record this program??? My technology failed me. I'll pay for postage if someone would lend me their copy. M.

Howdy Pardner; I have a TV tuner on the video card of my computer, so I recorded it onto my hard drive. If I can successfully burn it onto a DVD, I'll send you a copy.....I was going to burn a DVD for myself to keep anyway. I still haven't had a chance to watch the show yet, but I plan to this weekend. Mike
