Hi Marchers. I'm really at a loss as to what to do. I havn't lost a pound in 4 weeks. I'm bloated, exhausted, feel totally unwell. I'm eating 3 meals a day, the ususal protein/veggie meal, no starches. I'm not losing anything. I keep thinking of my surgeon who, at my 6 month check-up, told me there's no way in hell I will get to 150. He emphatically said absolutely not. That IF I get to 200 I should be happy with that. Well, I've been at 230 for at least a month now. This, coupled with my fast balding head, has me so down in the dumps I can hardly get motivated to do anything anymore. I just feel overwhelmed with everything. I this it? Am I done? I just don't know what to think, or feel, or do anymore. Thanks for listening. Maureen

i've been 226 for 3 weeks myself. dont lose hope. and what kind of surgeon do you go too? he sounds like he needs a new profession. he shouldnt be telling you that you there's no way in hell you'll make it to 150. my surgeon's goal for me is 140 and i told him no way and he jumped all over me for saying that. just keep with your diet and make sure you get your water and excercise in. i notice for me...when i lack a few days in my walking...i do stop losing the weight. dont give up, the ride isn't over yet.

First of all to your surgeon! what a butt head thing to say to someone. My surgeon is like set a goal you want and then GO GET IT! anyway, I hit a blockage for about 2 weeks now and it SUCKS! But I do remember someone sayign that you tend to "still" at a weight you were before and as I look back at all my stops along the way, they have been close to some weight I was for a time in the past ya know? Hang in there! It will happen! Nic 291/186/???

I stalled for a month too, but have started back to losing slowly again. Are you drinking enough? Try adding in an extra 8 oz per day of water (or even more if yu can). Add in a low carb, low fat protein shake. Focus on protein first. If you are bloated, you are retaining water. As soon as tha****er comes off, you will see the loss. Don't give up. I actually lost some inches during the worst of the stall. Your pouch still works. DON'T PANIC!! Joy

Maureen, Keep the pouch faith!!!!! I played back and forth with the same 2 1/2 to 3 pounds for 4 weeks or a little more and was getting disgusted, but then wham I lost 8 pounds in one week. Go figure, now I am holding steady for the last 3 days again, we have to consider this a lifetime of change not a race and certainly not a means for bashing ourselves over the head, we did way too much of that in the past and we are done with that now!!!! My dietician sugggested that when we hit a plateau to just tweek things a little different for a few days, add 100-150 more calories, exercise a little less or a little more, more or less water, anything to break the predictability to your body so it says, "I guess I dont know this body as well as I think I do." When doing that your metabolism kicks back in and gets out of the starvation holding mode. A few people in my WLS support group swear by it working for them. Keep remembering your hair will grow back and you will make it to whatever goal you set for yourself not what your surgeon says will not happen. Remember when you thought 50 pounds was not even possible, and now that is long gone and doubled........you will make your dreams come true. Believe it in your heart. Janelle

Reenie, Reenie, Reenie! Poop on your surgeon! Don't listen to that knucklehead. If you want to get below 200, you will. Have faith and patience. Think about it, you've lost over 100 pounds in 6 months. It's only right that your body should want to pause and catch it's breath from this tremendous weight loss. You've done wonderfully and I'm proud of you. The rest will come off in good time. Sweetie, remember, it's a lifestyle change and not a race to get the weight off. Remind me of these words when I'm upset that I've been sitting on a plateau for awhile. lol I'm cheering for you. Love, Connie

Sorry to hear your so down in the dumps. But bear with it . You will continue to lose. I promise!! Your body must adjust to the massive weight loss. I always tell myself If I'm not losing pounds, I'm losing inches!! It's usally true too. Your body has to reshape itself from all those pounds you've shed. Keep the faith sweetie!! I started at 287 now down to 193. My surgery was March 8th. So, I've lost 94 pounds. I stalled for quite awhile before the pounds started coming off again. But, I felt my clothes fitting differently, and I saw it in the mirror. Keep the faith!! Oh, and tell your doctor to kiss your evershrinking behind!! What a jerk!!

Hi Maureen, I am at a plateau as well. I also know that I could change a few things to kick start my weight loss. I slacked on my protein and need to watch carbs again. This has been a slower month for me too. Listen, doctors have a habit of sometimes feeling God-Like. Please, someone that is 200 can DEFINITELY loose more than that That was just a completely stupid statement. And yes we all know they can make them! Even though they think they cant. doctors have that tendency to ramble to hear themselves talk in which stupid statements like that come out. I had such an obnoxious doctor a while back. He was young and ... things just flew out of his mouth...I would challenge him and make him think twice about his statements. They are usually to quick to judge and to quick to make a diagnosis without really thinking things through. For example: My husband had TERRIBLE pain in his jaw. He went to that doc who told him that it was his sinuses. My husband insisted that it seemed to be his wisdom teeth and instead of really looking into things he just ignored him and stuck to the fact that it was his sinuses... needless to say he had terribly infected compacted wisdom teeth. SO dont let that doc get you down. You are just on a plateau and he made a stupid rash statement. Dont sweat it. You will be back on track before you know it and look sexier than ever You hang in there! ((hugs)) Elizabeth M stuck at 241 right now! Elizabeth M

Maureen, I wish I had a shot of pixi dust that I could pass on to you that would break your plateau, but I don't. I have hit a few myself and know how much they suck. As far as your surgeon goes the only one that truly knows what you are capable of doing is you and god, and your surgeon is not god; although I know of a few who think they are. If you can get with your nutritionist and go over your food journals or make one to take to her so she can look it over and give you her advice. I am doing this with my nutritionist on Friday but I know she will tell me to get out and excercise as I have not been very good at it. Keep your chin up and remember we continue to lose the weight for at least a year although it does slow down after the first 6 months. You will continue to lose have faith in yourself we have faith in you. Leslie

Maureen - First, try to look around you at others in the same boat. A great number of folks this far out are having a stall for a month or so. That is what I consider normal. I'm not looking forward to it because I've had 2-3 week stalls more often than some, but I'm trying to accept that it will happen. So just breathe deep and know that it's temporary. It *IS*. As for the doctor, I honestly believe he is using reverse psychology. I have seen other doctors say that same thing before and I think it's their way of using a person's stubborness as a tool to keep them from slowing down. After all, isn't it pretty much a knee-jerk reaction to want to prove him wrong? I think so!!! Dina
