The hair loss is inevitable and I've been assured it will grow back. In fact I think mine has slowed down quite a bit.. another few weeks and I think it'll be over. A friend at work also had surgery around the same time as me and she's growing baby hairs back already. Not getting your protein is not doing your hair any favors but that's the least of the concerns - please try again on the protein shake. I had trouble with them off and on, but I was finally able to get over it. What worked for me was buying premade (cans) shakes, getting them super cold in the fridge, and drinking them through a straw so I don't have to taste them that much. My doctor told me I need 65g of protein a day and even though I can eat more now, I would be hard pressed to get it without my daily shake. I have it in the morning and I think of it as medicine (i.e., a necessary evil.) After putting my body through surgery, I figure doing my daily shake is the least I can do. Good luck, Jen 266/181.5/155?160

I drink Worldwide Pure Protein, strawberry cream flavor, 30 g protein, 2 g carbs, I don't think there's any fat... You can get them in GNC, I usually see single cans there but the manager has offered numerous times to order them in cases for me (I usually buy 2 or 3 cases - 12 cans ea - at a time to waste less time going to the store.) By the case they work out to be about $2 a piece. (Or, what I used to spend on coffee and a buttered bagel). Good luck, Lucia. Jen

I know what you mean about the taste of those protein shakes. Not to mention the expense. Try Low-carb slim fast drinks twice a day. They have 20 grams of protein and only 9 grams of fat (which is great compared to even reduced-fat peanut butter). Also, try Carbwell protein bars. They are 140 calories and like 5 grams of fat. Both of the above will run you only about 9 dollars together and you get 4 cans of Slim fast and 5 carb bars. I was experiencing the hair-loss thing also, so I called my doctor and this was our resolution. Also, you may want to try some type of protein hair pomade/ treatment. Good luck!

Hi Lucia; I had surgery the same day you did and my hair loss has slowed down a lot. I guess it's hardly noticeable because I had thick hair anyway. But you will be fine...it grows back!!! Hey - I was in Kissimmee, Florida (sorry if I misspelled) 2 weeks ago. It was great!!! Hot but beautiful!!!! My father lives in Orlando and I met my little sister and her name is Lucia. Great job on losing all that weight...I have lost about 80 something pounds, but hey - I'll get to my goal weight when I get there - no hurry!!!!! Edna 255/172/???

hi, I am 6 months post op and 93 pounds down. I too am losing my hair BIG TIME!!!! I saw Dr. Lindsay last week and she says it is due to lack of zink and to get a zink tablet to take. Got one and sure hope it helps. Good luck and Congrats on your loss. Debbi

Go to WalGreen's web site. They have a ready to drink protein that's only 4oz and comes in strawberry (yummy) and carmel (haven't tried) They look like a little juice box. It's called optisource (it can only be ordered on line). They also have Beneprotein. This is a flavorless powder that you can mix in everything from oatmeal to soup to spaghetti sauce (you get the idea) even applesauce. Rest assured that they hair does grow back. The loss is a combination of several things...anesthesia (I always loose a significant amount from any anesthesia), lack of protien, and rapid weight loss. Friends of mine swear by Fructis by Garneia (SP???) you can pick it up at walmart. They say that switching to that shampoo line really helped them. A good haircut can make it look fuller in the meantime. Congratulations on you loss. (that seems so strange to tell someone doesn't it). Keep up the good work. Whitney

Your body is probably desperate for protein. I know how you feel about the protein shakes. I can't deal with them, either. I looked on GNC's website & they have 2 Kissimmee locations. Go to GNC & ask for the "Isopure Zero Carb Ready-to-Drink" bottles. They're 20 ounces, 40g of protein each, and they taste very good. My favorite flavors are Blue Raspberry & Alpine Punch. They are kind of pricey though, so be prepared for that. But it's worth it if you can't tolerate any other type of protein drink. Plus, they're on sale here in Michigan right now, and if you buy them the first week of each month with a GNC Gold Card, you will get an additional 20% off. The regular price per bottle ranges from $2.79 to $3.79, depending on your location. Good luck!!!
