Calling all Vomiters!

Sorry, this is pretty gross. I'm going to post it on the main message board also but wanted to try it here with the "marchers" first. I was just curious if anybody else deals with vomiting as much as I do and if so, why. When I started regular food, I threw up every other day. Now I'm down to every week or 10 days which seems like a great improvement. Meat is my main culprit which is really a problem when you're concentrating on protein. It usually starts with some meat that my pouch does not approve of getting stuck, and I vomit anywhere from 1 - 5 hours of a lot of liquidy spit stuff mixed with what was stuck, usually particles of meat, coming out at the end. Yesterday, I made the horrible mistake of dipping two french fries into my chili at lunch, and I threw up all afternoon. Not to be deterred from my planned shopping trip, I carried around a styrofoam cup in my purse and found an abandoned aisle at Ross to relieve myself then continued looking for clothes to fit. Anyone else care to share on this lovely topic? Carla

Are you in pain at all with the vomiting? I did that a LOT when my gallbladder first starting having issues....but I would think that you would mention pain if that was the case. If it really concerns you, I'd contact your surgeon's office just for peace of mind at least. I still vomit occassionally, but it is usually an "over and done with" kind of thing. I heave and get everything out and then I'm done. If you go for long periods of time after eating, I would suspect something other than just a "picky pouch". I would suspect that you have something abdominally that is spasming at whatever you are eating. Just my 2 cents Lissa

I had a problem with throwing up in the first 2 months and now again in month 5. But i find that if i suck on tic tacs all day i don't get too sick. Sounds weird, but tic tacs help me.

Hi Carla: My son had wls too and he vomits regularly. It is usually because he has eaten too much. It doesn't seem to bother him though. I have not thrown up once since surgery, but I also do not eat too much or too fast. Chicken breast is the only food to give me trouble and make me wish I could vomit. I now avoid it. Louise

My stomach is pretty sensitive, too. After the usual reminders to talk to your doctor, um, I will share that this happens to me when the meat is too dry, and I mean even a little bit. At first, I found I could NEVER eat leftovers, even salmon, though recently that has let up...a little. I think that moistening meat often helps us. I've ordered a couple of post-surgery cookbooks I found on Amazon and they all have marinade recipes. I've never bothered with that but am going to undertake that kind of cooking now so that I can eat a more varied diet and also get in more beef. Just a thought. Gano P.S. I have also found I still need to be treated for acid stomach (had IBS and reflux whatever before surgery). I take medication every day, which is why I think a chat with your doctor could also help.

First of all hang in there, and call the doc just to be safe! Meat is genreally what makes me vomit. If it is dry or even looks dry I dont even bother I just slip it to the dog! Also if I eat one bite to much, it will NOT STAY in! Eat too fast will not stay in... have any kind of stress during the meal...it will NOT STAY IN! since I discoverd the last one and made my family aware of it our meals are less stressful, well as stress free as a meal with an 8 year old, 4 year old and 2 dogs could ever be! I am not sick for long periods of time, unless the meat is again really dry, then it does take me for ever to get it all up! I am learning SLOWLY! {{hugs}} Nic 291/197/150?

I've got my issues with meat. I can't handle any type except ground chicken. Anything else tends to come back after a while. Thankfully, I'm a very polite upchucker. Two or three heaves and I'm done and feeling better. I haven't had any long lasting effects. I have found that most soy products do work for me. Boca and other products do tend to work for me and provide protein. Take care, EC

Carla... I am definatly a vomiter! I dont throw up for long periods of time,, but I can feel it coming on and then it is up and I am fine... I usually feel better (less discomfort in my chest region). But I do vomit more often then you,,, usually 1-2 days a week when food just doesnt sit well,... but it is not much on an inconvience. -KIM -145
