Information on ulcers? Vioxx?

Hi to all my Marcher buddies-- (I've been starting a new business, moving my daughter to NYC and just kind of overwhelmed. Thanks to VA for reminding me to get my shrinking behind back here.) I've been very freaked out recently by a post someone "helpfully" sent me from another board. It contained a horror story from someone who took Vioxx post op and had an ulcer in the pouch and nearly died. Now I know that both Celebrex and Vioxx do have occasional complications like this, have always known that. I took Celebrex for years and it's recommended I take Vioxx now. However, I find myself unable to swallow it after reading that post. The sad thing is, I do feel much better when I take Vioxx, stronger and more able to exercise. BUT I don't think it's worth dying for. I saw some old posts about monitoring for ulcers. Can anyone share any info about this specific risk or about what I could do to proactively monitor for ulcers if I chose to take the medicine? I see my surgeon tomorrow but I find him casual about these questions. Gano

Gano, Hey girl!! I was on Vioxx since about 6 weeks out. About a month ago my PCP changed me to Mobic. The Vioxx was causing me to retain fluid, I gained 5 pounds in 1 day!!! According to the literature there are less tummy troubles with Mobic. You take it twice a day instead of once. Vioxx and celebrex are both extended release meds and tend to be more harsh on the tummy. It's worth checking into. Hope this helps!!
