Am 4 months post op...open RNY. Had a severe sinus infection x one week. Didn't see dr about it,just took otc meds, Nearly over it. Then YESTERDAY, bam..wake up with abd pain. VIsited my bariatric surgeon, who said, he thinks it is gastroenteritis (i don't have diarrhea, constipation or n/v) and advised I take Pepcid ac for a week. Come back in a week if not better. If I lay perfectly still, I have no pain. Otherwise, I have mild to moderate pain across my abd. Have any of you other Marchers experienced this? Im a bit nervous about it. THanks for any advice/thoughts you can offer. Ellen

If it gets any worse, do not wait a week to call him back. If the pepcid helps, he is probably right. I can't figure out why motion would aggravate it though. Keep watch and don't let too much time pass. Joy

Yeah I am actually going through that as well. I have to have the beloved endoscopy. the tube camera they put down your throat to check out the stomach...yep. fun! My surgeon thinks that I may have an ulcer. Like you if I lay real still the pain goes down. I had that same stomach irritation before surgery but it never developed into an ulcer thank goodness...I hope it is the same scenario as well. I also am having pain in my side. I thought I pulled something when I was working out here she thinks I may possibly have a hernia so I have to get a scan of my abdomen and side as well. Trials and tribulations! I would call him back if the pain is still there. They need to get you checked out. I wish you the best. Elizabeth M

Thanks for the replies, Joy and Elizabeth. I'm sorry you are having to deal with another endoscopy, Elizabeth. I hope it isn't an ulcer..will medication clear it up, if it is? I feel for you...having a possible hernia, TOO?! Wow. You sound in good spirits though.I'm sure your positive attitude helps! I'll keep you in my prayers. Thanks to you both for the advice..I plan to follow up on it if the pain continues. ellen

Ellen. A lot of OTC Meds will effect our new pouch's, so if the pepcid doesn't work, go get checked out ASAP. Dont Wait. That's how people run into problems as they think it will go away on its own. Be smart. If you are not feeling better in a few days call your doctor.

Yeah, I agree with everyone else - make yourself a PITA and don't take no as an answer. Who cares if they begrudgingly run you through tests? And who cares if they don't find anything bad? I say WHOOPIE! At least then you will have peace of mind. And if not and you do have something wrong, you can thumb your nose at them. I bet they'd treat you with kid gloves from there on out too!
