FOOD is not my friend -- Anyone else have this?

Hi all - I have made a discovery that I just don't understand even though I consider myself relatively savvy with regard to biological functions. I religiously track what I eat and what I drink using Fit Day and for the last two months I have lost very slowly with two exceptions. About a month ago I got really tired of the slow low and instead of eating solid foods (high protein, low carb) to a total of 800 calories a day, I switched to drinking 2 protein shakes and lots of water with a small dinner of mainly protein at night. Still 800 calories and very close to the same nutritional elements as with solid foods. I immediately started losing again and dropped 10 pounds fairly fast. I hate drinking everything though so I slowly added solids back in. Well, I stopped losing again. So I'm now back to drinking my meals and frankly I'm losing quickly again. My body seems to be processing solid foods MUCH differently and much more efficiently than my liquid proteins. I've pretty much resigned myself to a life of protein drinks and one small meal a day as a treat - however I lose faster drinking all three meals. Does anyone else experience this? It baffles me how I can take in the same calories - with the same concentration of fat/carbs/protein and the difference being solid vs liquid and the liquid gets me where I need to be. It SUCKS...I definately miss chewing sometimes but I will make the sacrifices I need to in order to get the freakin weight off. Sorry -- I'm venting...just hope someone has some insight or at least a similar experience so I don't feel like a complete freak lol. Lissa

Lisa, read my response to Edna's post. I am also dismayed over the course this is taking and feel as if this is it, I'm done losing. Hang in there. I'll try to do the same. Maureen

Lissa - I hadn't heard this before but you just gave me an idea! LOL! I am going to try this and see if my weight loss speeds up. I am *suspecting* that it might have something to do with liquids passing through quickly. It seems that it would be logical that we would malabsorb liquids more since it doesn't sit in the pouch and get any digestion. I don't know if that is it, but I am thinking it sounds logical. And with that, I am going to be conducting my own experiment. Only I'm not going to do 2 liquids a day...just one. Have you considered trying yogurt instead of one of the shakes? It's runny enough maybe you would have the same luck with 1 yogurt and 1 shake and then dinner.... Dina

Hiya Dina I'll give the yogurt a try. I'm not sure I mind the protein drink diet restriction...I just fell weird being so limited lol. But I'm kind of glad I've found this out now so I don't get so darn frustrated in the future. Simple solution -- go back to drinking (lol no no no -- not the "good" stuff...the rum will have to wait). Lis

Lissa, My last doctor appt. I was told they have found that after surgery the liquid protein is much better absorbed than solid protein--long term. There is suppose to be somthing called Protein X coming out, so we can take in the liquid protein without the "shake". Sounds like you might be doing the right thing for your body. Donna
