Hello all, I just found this message board and have been feeling like a wls failure so I'd love some comments from y'all. My surgery was 3/1/4 and I immediately lost 60 lbs in the first 2-2 1/2 months. Since then I've been hovering at 215...I've been as low as 206 but I keep just bouncing around. I can eat more now, but I continue to walk for 30-40 minutes every day. I have been experiencing hair loss but this is not new to me...I did the same thing when I lost this much an Atkins several years ago. I guess I want someone to peer into their crystal ball and tell me if this is all there is. Have I stopped loosing? Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? I'm thrilled to be a size 16 since I started at a 24 but I'm scared that I'll gain it back if this is the end of the weight loss. Help!, Sheri

I have lost 76 pounds since my consultation weight. Surgery was 3/22/04. I am not eating carbs, per my surgeon's requirements. Only protein and green leafy veggies. I drink 80+ ounces of water per day and have a nasty coffee addiction. How much are you eating? What do your meals consist of? How much water are you getting in? Nancy -76 Lap RNY 3/22/04 250/174/150

OK,OK I'm eating some nuts, but mostly protein and very little refined carbs. Some days the water part is difficult, especially when traveling (what goes in must come out). I am going on Atkins starting Monday to try and get things going again and I'll keep y'all posted on my progress. It just seems as though some people have they weight just fall off for a year. I was hoping for the same result. I guess there is no way around it......Smaller portions and more exercise, Damnit! lap rny 3/1/04 275/210/160 Sheri

Sheri, Make sure you are eating ENOUGH. If you cut back too much your body will perceive that it is in starvation mode and you will be burning up the protein you consume and not the body fat. My consultation was 1/29/04 and my surgery 3/22. I have lost about 70 pounds since my consultation. I haven't always been happy with my loss rate, but I know that the weight is coming off. It's been relatively consistent at 12 to 15 pounds per month after a 20 pound loss the first month. I still have about another 80 pounds to lose. I just follow my doctor's orders and eat my protein and veggies, watch my carbs, drink my supplemental shakes and lots of fluids. Don't lose faith, Hugs, Mo

My surgery was the same day as yours. I have lost 82 pounds. The biggest contributing factors for me are water and protein shakes. I drink 90 grams in protein every single day. I drink 3 shakes at 30 grams each (if you drink more than that at one time you are just wasting $$$) because you body will not absorb more than 30 grams at a time. Next, I drink 80+ ounces of water daily. I usually drink more than 100 ounces per day. This really helps me a lot. RNY - 03/01/04 (285)258/176/130

My daughter (age 31) had wls and went from 286 to 132. when her weight loss slowed down her surgeon told her to only eat 2 meals per day and no snacks. That is what she did. I had wls 3/18 and have lost 63 pounds. When my weight loss slowed down I started the Stillman Diet (strictly protein). It's working. I have 18 pounds to go. Pay attention to the number of calories you're consuming each day - 1200 max. per day. Good luck. Louise

My God Louise You must have started having children at age 5! You can't be old enough to have a 31 year old daughter. What ever you are doing....keep it up...you look great! Aristea

My rate of loss is very slow. I have lost 68 lbs as of today and just came off a 2.5 week stall. I started at 325 and weight 257 right now. 3 weeks out of the starting gate I also stalled for 2 weeks and lost nothing. It's been a big thorn in my side. I'm trying to not focus so much on it right now but it is hard. I can see how looking at someone else that I can say "Gee, you're doing fine....you'll lose it." But when it comes to myself I end up just as neurotic as the next guy. I think it's that sense of failure we've dealt with all our dieting lives. I also used to do Atkins but I never could get past a certain point, and looking back I believe it was because I was eating too much even for Atkins, plus I am metabolically resistant...as one could tell from my situation right now. Most people my weight have lost 100 lbs by now or close to it. I haven't even hit the 75 lb mark yet. I was also thinking of doing full on Atkins again as well, but I'm so afraid of the calories. Here I went from "calories don't matter" when I was a dyed in the wool Atkid to now being afraid to have a little mayo on my LC bread. I do try to keep my carbs pretty low, but they aren't near as low as when I did Atkins. I have been eating fruit...namely apples as I find them a great treat after all those years of being on Atkins. I think I'm going to give it a go though. I do have a fear, but I think once I see the weight loss speed up I'll be able to relax. I have to admit that I rather enjoy the idea of having buffalo wings again....and cream cheese...the real stuff! I haven't eaten much fat since I had surgery but I am *thinking* it won't make me sick. We'll see. Keep us posted on if your rate of loss picks up. I am really curious how it goes. I also may go back on Glucophage as when I used that to combat my PCOS it really helped my weight loss. Dina

I had my surgery on March 16 and to date I only lost 39 pounds. Talk about a very slow loser. Still have 70 pounds to lsoe. I thougth I would be much further along by know. Very hard to deal with especially when I read about all the weight people who had surgery near me have lost. I guess that I need to stay positive and think of the weight I have lost. That is pretty hard actually very hard to do........

Hi Sheri, please exxcuse mmy typos I am on a terrible touch pad keyboard... I have lost 80 pounds (right now im at the up 2 down 2 point) I find that whenever I slack on my protein drinks I dont loose as quickly. If I have too much salt (nuts) for me its pumpkin seeds! lol...or if I stresss too much about it (water weight gain usually) and alsso...juuust let a chip TOUCH my llips and my weight loss stops dead in its traccks! (i can hear the brakes screaching) I just started a real exercise regimine last week and was oon a plataeu llike dinka for like 2.5 weeks...welll in one week I droppped 7 pounds. But i waas a lazy butt and was only walking every day at lunch... well okk strolling and gossiping with my friend not really walkking to exercise ... but now i do 15 minutes on a glider machine 15 minutes on treadmill and 15 minutes on the weight machines. that seemes to have really kick start my weight loss. now this weekend i stopped loosing BUT i havent had my protein drink in 3 days so i think thats why i stopped looosing. Ijust bought some today so I amhooping that it will start again ... sorry for the typos again... I hope you break your plateau. sometimes our bodies take an extraamount of time to adjust. each person is different too and as long as it comes off thats a plus! Remember watching the scale goo UP?? YIKES!!! wellgood luck we are here for ya. Elizabeth M
