PROTEIN QUESTION
Hi everyone, I hope we all managed to get through the holidays with little regret. Protein question: as we are all fast approaching our 3 years anniversaries (can you believe it???), do we still require all that protein and, if so, why? I'm trying to understand it. I really want to get my eating geared toward lots of whole foods - fruits, veggies, and healthy (non-animal fat) proteins. Really trying to stay away from hi-fat meats and processed foods. What's your take on this? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Reenie
For me the answer is YES. However, as we are able to eat more, we should be able to get it in a wider variety of food sources and rely less on supplements.
As I posted, I am really struggling with breaking my grazing/sleeping cycle. I have been focusing on making sure that a high percentage of each feeding is protein, and the grazing cravings are subsiding. I have not worried at all about quantities, other than trying to pay attention and stop eating before I get sick. After about 3 days of this, I stepped on the scales today to discover that I have lost 2 lbs!!! And the carb fog in my head is beginning to lift.
I have never been a great vegetable eater, and probably that is not going to change. I am trying to make 75% of my intake come from meat, dairy, eggs, beans, compared to only 25% coming from carbohydrates (and as much of that complex as possible). This seems to be the fuel mix that works best for me.
Now if I can just remember that food is fuel, not entertainment...

Reenie,
I imagine that we're all different, but if I start slipping on protein, I start losing hair. I see more of it in the tub, in my brush and on my pillow. It's noticible.
Now a question for you... If you overeat, do you feel it in the chest area like before or is it lower, in the normal tummy area? I'm full in the belly area now instead of feeling pressure in my chest like I did the first year. Have old age and gravity impacted even my poor pouch?
Hugs,
Connie
