How long on a Plateau
um lets see i'm at what about 17 days now!!! I go up and down every day, I actually GAINED 6 pounds and went back up to 178!!! I am really starting to get ticked off, though I know why it's happening, I really need to make myself eat more!!! I am only eating one meal a day, I'm getting in my water and one protein shake a day(20gms). I started today with eating breakfast(1 egg, 2 pieces of turkey bacon, and half a piece of carb whole wheat bread) and for lunch I had a whole wheat low carb wrap with chicken salad and shreadded cheese sprinkled on!!! So so far I'm doing good.

Your body goes into starvation mode and will feed off of your muscles, so it will not let any weight go because it feels it needs something to give it energy. So if you are not eating then you are not losing. Your body needs fuel to burn. I have done really well today and feel like I might just get past this plateau!

I'll join the ranks of the seldom losers. I went down to 33 lbs lost then back up two lbs and have been fighting all week to get them off. I finally dropped one of them this morning, but these pounds are hanging on for all they're worth.
My longest stall I think was 10 or 11 days so far. We'll see how long this one lasts.

Guess I've been one of the fortunate ones. I'm 7 weeks out and so far no plateau. There are many weeks where loss is very slow - half lb every few days, but it is still steady. I'm not weighing too often (2-3x/wk max) cause I knwo that I will feel as though it's a plateau. When the loss slows, I try to walk extra the next few days. I know one will come soon enough, and I am not looking forward to it.

O im so glad im not the only one. i had lost 21 pounds as of my 2 weeks post op and im up to 30 pounds but its been this way for at least 2 weeks now. i think im eating enough but how do i know. I had surgery the 26th of march am i doing about the same as most others that have had surgery the same time frame
I had one 10 day plateau about 2 weeks out from WLS, then it jumped into gear and now I am on my second plateau for 3 days now. So far I have lost a total of 57 lbs. When I saw the dietician approx 1 month out she warned me of not eating enough, she said that people who eat between 500-700 cals a day with the 60 or better protein grams and the recommended water will be the best steady losers, and said when you go into a plateau you need to do one of 4 things, get moving (more exercise), more water, more protein, or more calories. I know I havent been eating enough the last few days so I am confident that its the starvation mode here as well, I have been averaging about 300-450 cals daily. I just need to make myself eat. My protein intake has been good with protein powders. I could do better on H2O too. We all know what we need to do to make it better, now we should JUST DO IT!!!!!! Easier said than done sometimes. Best wishes to all, Janelle
I hit a plateau at 2wks out and it lasted 2 weeks; was down 17lbs at 2 weeks post op and it took 2 more weeks to lose 5 more lbs. Well 2 weeks ago I had my 6wk appt and was down -32#. I also saw the dietician and was advised that I'm not eating enough. She told me that I needed to eat some real food to "tweak" my metabolism. Hot damn! if that didnt work. As of today I'm down -50lbs. I lost 18lbs in the last 2 weeks. Remember we now need to eat to live; otherwise the body will go into starvation.
