A FAVOR...
I'd like to ask a favor of everyone who goes to post-op support groups. It seems that a majority of us on this board are experiencing lengthy plateaus, or being "stuck" no matter what we do. Although the concept of plateaus was briefly mentioned by my surgeon, we never discussed it. I assumed it meant that by and by throughout the process, I'd stop losing -- for a day or two, just like any other diet. Have never experienced these kinds of plateaus before, that last for many weeks. I am going to my support group meeting next Wednesday and will ask of other post-ops who are a year or more out if they experienced this phenomenon and, if so, can they offer any words of advice or encouragement to us as we struggle to get through the "stucks". Can you all do the same? It will be good to get the perspective of been-there-done-that post-ops who have met their weight loss goals, especially if they experienced these plateaus as well. How long will they last? What do we do about them? Thanks. Maureen
From everythign I have heard, alomost everyone at some point will hit a plateau, the length of time is different for everyone. The best thing to do people say i to mix up your schedule, maybe start trying to eat more food, or get more water in or more protein down, also try alternating your workout schedule or routine, anything that is different from what youhave been doing sometimes will get youback into the swing of things, luckily for me I have nto hit a plateau yet, but I am sure that it is coming, good luck
Maureen,
One thing I've seen before about breaking a plateau is returning to the mostly protein diet of the beginning. Eating too many carbs will slow or stop weight loss.
My Doc wants his patients to get twice as many grams of protein as they get in carbs. So if you doing 60 grams of protein, your carb total should be no more than 30 grams. It doesn't take much of carbs to get you to that 30 gram total.

Strangely enough the days I hardly eat I dont lose - can be 3 or 4 days at a time - the days I feel like I ate a lot ( not compared to before by any means!) are the days I drop weight. For example, I caculated that I was 400-500 cal a day for 5 days and my weight was static. Yesterday I had an egg and bacon for breakfast, 2 slices of meat lovers pizza for lunch, and a stuffed potato for dinner - and I dropped 2 lbs. - but this isnt an isolated incident - whenever I eat more protein I lose weight. this ODVIOUSLY wasnt low carb I guess maybe if you dont get enough protein your body thinks you are starving and wont drop the weight???
