Is bread okay to eat?????
I had my surgery 3/24/04 and so far I have lost 33lbs. I am happy with my weight loss but I can't help feeling like I am not going to loose all the weight I want. I started at 255lbs and my goal is 150lbs. I find that sometimes I can eat without any problems. I am following my DR.'s rules and I was given a dietary guide and I am following it carefully. I am scared to try anything crazy right now, but I found that I can eat whole wheat bread (Brand name - Healthy Style - low carb-high protein bread) without any problems. Will this slow down my weight loss? Should I only be on protein drinks? I have not had any protein drinks yet. Please any advice?!?!?!?
Thanks.
Edna
Edna,
I try to stay away from bread only because protein is so much more important. I find that if I dont drink my protein drinks my weight loss is waaay slower. Thats me personally though. I tried a little bit of bread and it didnt feel so hot so I just pretended I couldn't have it and havent tried since. Want to stay away from the carbs as much as possible. It does expand and fill your pouch quicker from what I hear so its better to fill your pouch with more nutritious stuff like protein and veggies and fruit first before the carbs.
Definitely get in those protein drinks!!! But eat as well
Best Wishes!

My doctor's office is emphatic about NO BREAD for 6 months to a year. They say the weight loss slows dramatically. Since I don't have as much to lose, I may get to add some bread at 6 months and really looking forward to it.
Also, toast is better than soft because it can "roll" and clog up the pouch.
I am a bit obsessed with this also, and have been interested reading others posts on this subject.
I just came from the dietician today..and begged her to give me a 'number' of carbs per day..just as they do with protein.
She was hesitant to label a specific number but eventually said around 15grams per meal was acceptable. Since there are carbs in milk as well (for shakes) I am not sure where they fit in, but I am having a slice a bread every few days (the low carb whole wheat)..and I have had a few saltines with low fat penutbutter too...I dont feel like I am losing any slower by any means..but maybe I am.
For me, it works, and it seems like a good choice..its not candy or chips...its a slice of light bread.
I must say though, that it doesnt have the same appeal as it used to. After eating the bread, I feel weird, and think, maybe I wont do that again. Not so much on the saltines..but sometimes its easier for me to put tuna or pbutter on those then to fix a real lunch since I have 2 toddlers.
Just my input.
Good luck
Kris
Hi. I will be 6 wks out on Monday (5/3)...My surgeon doesn't want me to have bread until I'm 2 months out and then only lite bread (toasted, it goes down better). Right now, I can eat crackers, but of course, I can only have a few and I have that with my chicken noodle soup. Every surgeon is different and they each have their own diet guidelines. Maybe you should ask your dr or even the nutritionist. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.
