I screwed up...
UGH!!!!! I did it, for the first time I really screwed up. I'm so mad at myself. I ate one of those 25 cent bag (1 1/1 oz) of Cheetos. Its my time of the month and the cravings have been killing me. The last 3 days have been so tuff. Today being the worst I gave in to my craving. I must say the craving is gone but I feel miserable. Am I the only one who has messed up???

Kelley,
Let's put it in perspective...yes, you ate the whole bag, but it was only 1.5 ounces. In the old days (pre-op), we would have eaten the whole bag but it would have been 12 to 15 ounces, maybe more. It is OK to have a treat now and then, but we need to focus on getting our protein and healthy food in the majority of the time. We are only human and if we expect to be perfect because we have had WLS, we will fail as we have on all other diets. Relax, and enjoy the new tools you have been given. You will succeed!!

Kelley, my dear, think about this for a minute. By beating yourself up, being mad at yourself, hating yourself for your weakness, then getting depressed because you feel like a failure, by playing into that old dance again, YOU ARE SETTING YOURSELF UP to become a chronic cheater! This is exactly the kind of behavior that our psyches have been programed to produce. Stop the cycle right now. Go to a mirror, young lady, right this intance. Look into your eyes and tell yourself in a loud, clear, confident voice, "I am not a screw up. I am a woman of courage for taking the drastic steps I have to conquer my obesity. If I am strong, that means I AM NOT WEAK. I had a treat. That's all it was. I stinkin' lousy little treat. And I'm over it. Get it, psyche? I'M OVER IT!" Then move on and do the things you need to do to take care of yourself, be healthy, and lose the weight. Ok? Ok. You're fine! God bless, Maureen
Are you kidding? We all mess up. Your pouch is there to help you, so just get back on the horse and ride and don't worry.
(How's your exercise programming coming along. If we can help you make that work, it might make these events less of a sure thing.)
Lifestyle change takes MONTHS and requires a lot of support. Hence, this forum. We're all struggling with it constantly. (I had dinner at 10 pm night before last because I was working too hard, something I SWORE never to do again. Good thing lightning can't really strike me dead.) Did you buy it or was it in your house, for example. A lot of us CANNOT resist food cues when we're stressed. If it was in the house, clean out your cupboards when you're not craving. Be ruthless. If you drive past the place where you bought it, change your driving route. If you bought it while you were buying groceries, have someone else buy the groceries just when you're PMSing for a month or two. Watch less TV when PMSing (too many food commercials) or record and fast forward past the food. But a frothy romance novel, or candles or something to help you out when you're feeling this way. You need to actively DO stuff to help yourself out, as just thinking inwardly about most of these things doesn't work all that well.
I'm sure there are lots of other tips. But I gotta say you have a lot of company, like most people in the WORLD.
