almost 6 weeks--bad pains around incision

hi everyone--i have had an infection in my incision since week 1-- it had to be cut open and cleaned and packed everyday--the infection is almost all gone now i just have to wait for the big hole to close--last night all around incision i have pains--could this be muscle pain from the wound closing up--i will contact my surgeon tomorrow--any thoughts would be appreciated! -27

Kerry, I had some horrible pains in my left side under the biggest incision. Week two I called the surgeon's office and was told this was normal and would last until about the 6th week or so. Later in week two, I called again and was told again that this is normal. Now I'm a person who has had nine cavities filled without benefit of Novocaine or gas. I ripped my big toenail right out of the nail bed and didn't know it until I felt my toes squishing around in blood in my sandal (I admit I was on 1/2 a dose of Lortab at the time) so I figure I have a pretty high pain threshold. I again complained at week 4 and was told it would go away. Finally week 5 I went to the emergency room where they did CT scans, x-rays, blood tests, urine tests and it turned out to just be some muscle spasms. And about week 6 it did go away. I was glad that I went to Emergency because they confirmed that there was something (albeit minor) and that it was nothing serious like a leak, hernia or abcess. Connie

I had an abscess of my incision and we had to pack it for 3 weeks. Last week the doctor said we could stop packing it, just clean and band-aid it twice a day for two more weeks. As for your pain, I have had a little pain around the incision- but the worst pain has been from the skin around it which is inflamed. Pursuant to the doctor's orders, I have been putting some cortisone cream on it which has helped. Good luck.
