I had a terrible problem with this. I couldn't even keep water down. I was spitting up a white frothy substance. The dr. said that is from being constipated. I went to my dr. on Tuesday he had me use 2 suppositories twice a day. 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening. Then he had me also take seena, which is a vegetable laxative at night before I went to bed. He had me use the suppositories through Friday. He did have me taking Milk Of Magnesia at night but I couldn't keep that down, that is why I started taking the seena. He said once you get that constipated you will be miserable until you get completely cleaned out. I was. He felt around on my stomach and it was real hard and he said yep, that is what it is. Now I did all of this and I still take the laxative's at night and I feel so much better. My dr. said once you get that bad it is really hard to get cleaned out because everything is impacted. You could still be going some everyday and still be really bad. Which I was. No matter what or how much you eat you should still have normal BM, and if you don't it could lead to a serious problem if not taken care of. I would check with you doctor if you are still having problems. going back to Renee'

Renee, I would be very concerned to be so reliant on laxatives as your doctor is suggesting. Your system can become totally dependant on them so that it ceases to work on its own altogether. I will call my doctor tomorrow, however, and see if he advised a Fleet enema, since that is the best thing to totally clean you out. Are you eating fiber rich foods? Take care, Maureen

It was just for that week. When I had my surgery they found 3 hernias and my bowels were matted together from previous surgeries. My dr. had to cut off fatty tissue and separate everything. Thus making my bowels become lazy and not want to work. He said they wanted to sleep, after surgery. But it is ok to use stuff for certain periods of time when you are having problems. My dr. has been doing this surgery for years and is also a trauma dr. I worried too about the laxatives but have found that it worked with no ill side effects. Glad things are better for you now. Take care. Renee'

Reenie, I have had the problem a little as well, but have found two sure things for me, one is the sugar free candy bars, and it doesnt take much either, one or two of those little reeses peanut butter cup mini things. And the other thing that really works if you want to stay away from carbs is one fried egg. If I have a fried egg, within 1-2 hours I will be complteley cleaned out. If you are like me you will want to plan a day at home before you try either of these. I can go 5 days and still not feel like I have to go at all, so I just use this trick if I go over 5 days or so. Give them a try if you want. I tyr to stay away formthe laxatives, sometimes they will make you feel worse, especially if they have the stimulant in them. Good LUCK!

Reenie, I just had a Dr. visit last week and we discussed this problem. He told me to take Colace. So far, so good! I found it at Walmart and it's around $15.00 for 60 capsules. Good luck, Tia
